Privately Owned SME Reporting to the Finance Director

Qualified or Part Qualified Accountant

Are you a confident, technically strong finance professional who thrives in a hands on SME environment?

Our client, a successful privately owned business, is seeking a Financial Controller who can bring rigour, influence, and commercial clarity to a growing organisation.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening financial governance, improving reporting quality, and supporting strategic decision making. This is a broad, high impact position suited to someone who enjoys both the technical depth of finance and the interpersonal influence required in a senior leadership setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts and year end financial statements
  • Manage the audit process and liaise with external auditors
  • Oversee VAT, HMRC submissions, and compliance requirements
  • Maintain and improve financial controls, processes, and reporting standards
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow management
  • Oversee payroll and ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Provide financial insight to senior leaders and challenge assumptions where necessary
  • Drive continuous improvement across finance systems and processes
Requirements

We're looking for a qualified or part qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with a strong grounding in accountancy practice, particularly in preparing accounts for audit and managing compliance.

You will bring:

  • High level Excel capability and strong analytical skills
  • The ability to influence decisions and challenge constructively
  • A strong, resilient personality suited to a fast paced SME
  • Credibility when partnering with senior leaders and key stakeholders
  • A proactive, solutions focused mindset
Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to step into a role where your voice matters. You'll work closely with an experienced Finance Director, gain exposure to strategic decision making, and shape the financial future of a dynamic, privately owned business.
