Job Description

The Role

We're looking for a Financial Controller to join the Ffern team. As a Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing our financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making through detailed financial analysis. You'll report directly into our Finance Director and work closely with cross-functional teams to maintain robust financial processes in our fast-growing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Work closely with our bookkeeping team to deliver timely and accurate financial reporting on a monthly basis
  • Own statutory year-end reporting and compliance
  • Drive month-end close improvements, creating robust processes in a rapidly growing environment
  • Work closely with the FD to provide detailed financial analysis to support leadership decision-making
  • Review the preparations of corporation tax, VAT, and any other relevant taxes/tariffs
  • Support cash flow forecasting and working capital management

Audit Management

  • Support the FD as a key point of contact for external auditors during the year-end audit
  • Coordinate and manage audit requests, ensuring the timely provision of accurate documentation and responses.

Stakeholder Management

  • Work with department heads to support the FD with regular analysis & budgeting/forecasting
  • Support the team with payment runs and supplier communications
  • Liaise with external advisors on both regular support and ad hoc work

Process Improvement

  • Own and ensure continued integrity and robust financial processes
  • Identify and implement improvements in financial processes, systems and controls to drive efficiency and accuracy

Your profile

  • Accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent)
  • 3 years as a Financial Controller or similar finance leadership role post qualification
  • Proven experience in closing the books in a short time and preparing consolidated financial statements (multi-currency / multi-entity accounting)
  • Excellent financial controls and compliance knowledge, including VAT, payroll, and tax regulations (EU and US experience are an advantage)
  • Advanced Google Suite skills
  • Track record of improving processes and systems
  • Start-up/Scale-up experience: you need to be comfortable operating in a lean, resourceful environment and have a hands-on mentality
