Job Description

Job Title: Finance Business Partner
Location: Braintree/Hybrid
Type: Temporary (6-month contract)
Hours: Full Time
Start Date: Immediate
Rate: £250-300 per day (Inside IR35, Dependent on Experience)

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Finance Business Partner to provide expert financial support across a range of services within a public sector setting. This role requires a confident and collaborative individual who can work closely with senior managers to drive financial performance, improve reporting, and influence strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive financial and management accounting support, including budgeting, forecasting, and year-end processes.

  • Support service leads with expert advice on financial implications of operational and strategic decisions.

  • Provide robust challenge to existing assumptions and budgets to ensure efficiency and value for money.

  • Lead on revenue and capital financial reporting and ensure the accurate submission of statutory returns.

  • Contribute to corporate projects, supporting financial planning and performance review.

  • Drive financial awareness and accountability among budget holders through active engagement and support.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant accounting codes and best practices, particularly CIPFA and public sector requirements.

Requirements:

  • Full CCAB qualification (eg CIPFA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.

  • Strong track record in a Finance Business Partner or senior financial advisory role.

  • Experience working within local government or the wider public sector is highly desirable.

  • In-depth understanding of public sector finance, including regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills; experience with major finance systems (eg Oracle, SAP).

  • Able to interpret complex financial information and communicate it clearly to non-finance stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities effectively.
