Overview

Reactive Field Service Engineer - Near Glasgow or Edinburgh

Experience working in FMCG warehouses on large machinery including conveyors and autoloaders or similar with an electrical bias. Must have mechanical and electrical experience & qualifications.

At Caljan, we take pride in our engineers' development. They are the front line of the company offering mechanical and electrical repairs to our customers' FMCG warehouse machinery.

We are seeking qualified mechanical and electrical engineers to join our growing team. Our ideal candidate will be passionate about machinery and electronics, have an extensive understanding of health and safety including risk assessments and method statements, have an aptitude for mechanical and electrical repairs, and have experience handling heavy machinery.

This is a home-based role, visiting customer sites.

About the role

As a reactive engineer, you will travel to customer sites when their machinery has broken down. The machinery can be anything from a conveyor belt to an auto loader or anything you may find in a logistics warehouse. You will be supplied with a van and state of the art tools and equipment.

Working closely with our service support team, you will deliver excellence and be customer centric in your duties. You will have the opportunity to complete a logbook which enables you to move up the Caljan ladder.

You will take part in a 24/7 on call rota which contractually 1 week in 3. For most of our regions, we aim for one week in 4 but it can be more.

Salary upwards of £48,779 PA

Key responsibilities
  • Excellence in breakdown and reactive maintenance and services
  • Conduct routine breakdowns, repairs and maintenance work on Automated Material Handling Equipment and systems across the UK region sites
  • Service operational excellence in attending and fixing breakdowns, repairs and standby maintenance to ensure customers receive the agreed level of service and support per contracts and KPI/SLA targets, following company technical standards and health and safety policies (including risk assessments and method statements)
  • Conduct "Gemba Walk" inspections at customer sites (non-invasive proactive/preventive/predictive inspections - thermal, acoustic, visual, reports, timings, checks, audits)
  • Ensure training, competence and experience align with the appropriate job level as defined in the FSE Career plan and Master Skills Matrix
  • Commit to continuous professional development and staying up to date with industry developments
  • Improve customer satisfaction by coordinating with customers and fulfilling their needs
  • Identify opportunities to improve service, increase sales and add value for the customer
  • Use service and maintenance processes, systems and tools to ensure all deliverables and administration are completed in accordance with company standards (risk assessments, method statements, reporting, site files, drawings, expenses, timesheets, holidays, sickness, etc.)
  • Support other areas of the business as required (e.g., holiday/sickness cover, site management support, installation support, latent defect investigation, training)
  • Ensure compliance with Company Health and Safety, service and maintenance procedures and standards at all times
  • Proactively ensure personal safety and the safety of others by complying with the Company's health and safety policies
What will you bring to the role?
  • Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience in similar work (HND/HNC/Apprenticeship)
  • Preferred Electrical Qualifications - NVQ Level 3 / Diploma or City & Guilds 2391, 2394 and 2395, or EAL Inspection and Testing and Initial Verification qualifications
  • Minimum Electrical Qualification - Access to Building Services; Electrotechnical Craft (Level 2); or related qualifications in Building Services Engineering; or Mechanical to Electrical conversion
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to interact with customers and other stakeholders
  • A full UK Driving Licence
