Job Description

Location: London and Home Counties
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Triple Star Fire and Security Limited is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic FESS Apprentice to join our growing fire and security engineering team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to start a long-term career in a specialist technical trade. You will receive structured training, attend college, and work toward recognised qualifications that lead to becoming a fully qualified engineer in the fire and life-safety industry.

Role Overview

As a FESS Apprentice, you will embark on a structured and professionally supported learning pathway that combines college-based learning with hands on, field-based experience alongside our qualified engineers. This blended approach ensures you gain a comprehensive understanding of Fire, Emergency & Security Systems from day one.

You will spend part of your time attending college or a recognised training provider, where you will learn the theoretical foundations of the trade - including electrical principles, system technologies, industry standards, and health & safety regulations. This academic training will work hand in hand with your on site experience, helping you apply what you learn in real working environments.

Out in the field, you will work closely with experienced engineers who will support and mentor you through your day to day tasks, from basic installation and maintenance to understanding system design, wiring practices, and commissioning principles. Over the course of the apprenticeship, you will gradually take on more responsibility, building confidence, technical capability, and problem solving skills.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will work towards recognised industry qualifications, including the Level 3 FESS qualification, which will equip you with the skills needed to become a fully qualified FESS engineer. By the end of the programme, you will not only have gained a respected qualification but also a practical, employable trade with strong long term career prospects within the fire and security industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the installation, servicing, and maintenance of fire alarm and security systems.
  • Assist engineers with practical tasks including cable installation, device mounting, fixings, and basic system setup.
  • Learn safe working practices, electrical principles, and relevant British Standards.
  • Attend college as required to complete the theoretical elements of the apprenticeship.
  • Complete coursework, logbooks, and assessments to achieve recognised qualifications.
  • Maintain a professional attitude with clients and colleagues.
  • Follow all company procedures and health & safety guidance.
Skills & Attributes
  • A genuine interest in engineering, fire safety, or electrical/electronic systems.
  • Enthusiastic, reliable, and keen to learn a trade.
  • Good communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions.
  • PC literate - confident using tablets, apps, and reporting systems.
  • GCSEs at pass grade (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
Training, College & Recognised Qualifications

During your apprenticeship, you will receive:

  • Enrolment onto the FESS Apprenticeship Standard, delivered through an approved college/training provider.
  • A mix of college-based learning and hands on field experience with qualified engineers.
  • The opportunity to work towards recognised industry qualifications, including electrical and fire safety modules.
  • Support in achieving a Level 3 FESS qualification, enabling you to become a fully qualified engineer.
  • A clear career pathway leading to a skilled trade profession within the fire and security industry.
  • Ongoing mentoring from highly experienced engineers.
What We Offer
  • Company vehicle (as training progresses), fuel card, mobile phone, and tablet.
  • A structured, progressive training and development programme.
  • Supportive, friendly, and experienced engineering team.
