FEAS: Post-Doctoral Researcher (PDR) EAFM - OceanICU

The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for marine research, technology, development and innovation (RTDI). The Marine Institute seeks to assess and realise the economic potential of Ireland's 220-million-acre marine resource; promote the sustainable development of marine industry through strategic funding programmes and scientific services; and safeguard the marine environment through research and environmental monitoring. The Institute works in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) and a network of other Government Departments, semi-state agencies, national and international marine partners.

Summary of Role:

ThePost-Doctoral Researcher(PDR)will work closely withthe Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries ManagementTeam Leadondelivering the research for theOceanICUproject.Theindividualwillwork specifically on helping to develop ecosystem modelling approaches that will enable an understanding of the implications of fishing on the role of fish in the sequestration of carbon to the seabed. This will be done in collaboration with other experts in the field in the MarineInstitute, and in the project partner institutions in the UK,Denmarkand France. The individual will then apply the methods to construct fishing associated carbon budgets for the shelf seas around Ireland. You will also collaborate with a second PDRon this project who will beworking onConnectingOceanICUto Society

Eligible Candidates must be:

A citizen of the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway;

A citizen of the United Kingdom (UK); or

A citizen of Switzerland pursuant to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the free movement of persons; or
