Job Description
FAMILY SOLICITOR - MANAGING ASSOCIATE 6+ PQE - NEWCASTLE

An experienced Family Solicitor is required to join a national law firm as a Managing Associate. The successful candidate will work closely with the Partners in the matrimonial team to support the delivery of a comprehensive range of legal services. The role involves assisting clients across the North East region with complex and sensitive family law matters, providing a professional, empathetic, and client-focused service.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Managing a varied and complex caseload of family law matters, including divorce, financial remedies (including high-net-worth cases), private children matters, cohabitation disputes, and nuptial agreements.
  • Providing clear, practical legal advice and take detailed client instructions tailored to individual circumstances and varying levels of complexity.
  • Drafting high-quality legal documentation, including pleadings and agreements, in line with client objectives.
  • Representing clients in negotiations with litigants in person and other professionals to secure favourable outcomes.
  • Conducting advocacy, attending court hearings, and ensuring compliance with court procedures and deadlines.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships, contributing significantly to business development through networking and training initiatives.
  • Supporting the growth of the team and supervise junior team members, including trainees, paralegals, and legal support staff.
The ideal candidate:
  • You will ideally have a minimum of 6 years' PQE, with significant experience across the full spectrum of family and matrimonial matters, including advocacy.
  • A proven track record of advising on complex matters concerning divorce, financial remedy, and private Children Act cases.
  • Strong legal knowledge with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • The ability to deliver accurate work under pressure and to tight deadlines, while maintaining a flexible and practical approach.
  • Significant business development experience, with a demonstrable ability to generate new client work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a clear and logical approach.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage workloads independently and effectively.
  • Resilience, sound professional judgement, and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • A proactive, motivated, and commercially aware approach, together with effective file management, strong IT skills, and financial discipline.
