Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Family Network Pilot (FNP), an extension of a Department of Education initiative for a further 12 months.

The Family Network Pilot tests the impact of providing flexible funding for extended family networks through Family Network Support Packages (FNSPs) to help keep families together and children out of care where appropriate. The pilot aims to find sustainable, family-led solutions by increasing family group decision-making and introducing FNSPs, as recommended by the Independent review of children's social care. It explores how FNSPs can remove barriers and enable family networks to play a more active role in providing loving, safe, and stable homes for children through financial and practical support.

Main Responsibilities
  • You will have significant experience working with children/young people and their families from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • You should be knowledgeable about family needs, possess strong relationship-building and communication skills, and be effective in working with professionals, colleagues, and families.
  • Skilled in mediation, negotiation, and conflict management, with high organizational skills.
  • Confident in convening and chairing large meetings effectively, meeting varied timeframes, especially for Family Group Conferences.
  • Able to remain independent, neutral, and objective, managing difficult issues diplomatically and respectfully.

Please note, this job description is for a generic Family Group Convener role; there may be slight variations for the Family Network Pilot.

The Ideal Candidate
  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification.
  • Completed or willing to undertake FGC training through an accredited provider.
  • Experience delivering direct work with children, families, and carers in statutory or voluntary agencies.
  • Ability to navigate complex systems and deliver simple, effective solutions.
  • Passion and drive to support children's safety and family stability.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently, with willingness to travel.
  • Strong understanding of family dynamics and relational techniques.
  • Access to a car at all times, with an essential car user allowance.

Note: Weekend or evening work may be required. Interviews are scheduled for the week starting 25 August 2025.
