Job Description
Failsafe Officer - Ophthalmology

Role Overview

The Failsafe Officer is responsible for overseeing failsafe services within the Ophthalmology Department. The role involves maintaining failsafe procedures, monitoring processes, validating data, conducting clinical audits and reporting on patients in the Ophthalmology Service.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work as a member of the Ophthalmology team to maintain failsafe procedures.
  • Responsible for all process monitoring, data validation, and clinical audit.
  • Assist in improving the quality and system for collecting data used to assess performance against local commissioning targets and KPIs.
  • Participate in information retrieval to support research and audit programmes.
  • Report on patients referred to the service or retained for treatment/monitoring.
  • Monitor treatment timelines for intravitreal injection patients and those on the Outpatient Waiting List whose timelines differ from the 18 week RTT pathway.
  • Prepare other failsafe reports as required.

Person Specification Qualifications - Essential
  • Diploma level or NVQ Level 4 or equivalent, or relevant NHS experience.
  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths grades A C.
  • Recent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or equivalent.
Experience - Essential
  • Relevant health or social care experience.
  • Experience of multi professional working.
  • Significant experience using data management and administration systems.
  • Evidence of good communication skills.
  • Previous experience in an administrative role.
  • Good keyboard skills with experience of databases and MS Office/Excel.
Experience - Desirable
  • Experience using Lorenzo and Medisoft/Medisight electronic patient record systems.
  • Understanding of the failsafe officer role.
  • Experience coordinating a patient workload.
Compliance and Background Checks

The role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check and will involve the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
