The Fabrication Foreman is responsible for the execution of all shop fabrication activities through leadership of Lead Welders and their crews. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production by planning daily work, coordinating fabrication sequences, and driving performance across multiple teams.

The Foreman also owns the welder development and progression system, utilizing structured evaluations, coaching, and EOS based management principles to rapidly develop, retain, and promote talent.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management
  • Directly supervise and mentor 2-3 Lead Welders, each leading small crews
  • Develop Leads into effective crew managers aligned with Level 3 expectations
  • Provide daily direction, accountability, and coaching
  • Build a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Promote strong morale through engagement, recognition, and development
Production Planning & Execution
  • Plan and assign daily work tasks based on production schedules
  • Coordinate fabrication sequencing to optimize workflow and minimize rework
  • Allocate manpower effectively across jobs and crews
  • Monitor progress and adjust plans to meet deadlines
  • Collaborate with engineering, QA/QC, and management
Performance Management
  • Track and manage:
    • Production rates and efficiency
    • Repair/rework rates
    • Schedule adherence
    • Crew productivity
  • Ensure alignment with Level 1-3 production and quality expectations
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions
Quality Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with ASME/API codes and WPS requirements
  • Reinforce strong self inspection culture across all crews
  • Partner with QA/QC to resolve issues and prevent repeat defects
  • Ensure Leads proactively prevent weld discontinuities
Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce all safety policies and PPE requirements
  • Promote proactive safety leadership across crews
  • Maintain high standards for housekeeping and equipment care
Welder Development & Progression System (CORE RESPONSIBILITY) The Foreman is responsible for executing and managing the company's Welder/Fabricator Progression Program to ensure rapid skill development, fair evaluation, and retention of employees.

Management System
  • Utilize EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) principles to:
    • Set clear expectations
    • Track measurable performance
    • Maintain accountability
    • Drive continuous improvement
Structured Review Process (4 Reviews Per Year) 1. Initial Placement (At Hire)
  • Sr managers will assign welders to a Level/Tier (1A-3C) based on demonstrated skill and experience
  • Align expectations with progression system benchmarks
2. 90 Day Review (Formal Evaluation)
  • Conduct full evaluation using the Welder Skills Checklist Evaluation Form
  • Assess welding, fabrication, quality, and production metrics
  • Reclassify level/tier if needed:
    • Move up if skills exceed current level
    • Move down if performance does not meet expectations
  • Establish end of year growth goals
3. Mid Year Reviews (Review & - Informal)
  • Conduct informal check ins to:
    • Review current performance and progress
  • Ensure alignment with end of year goals
  • Provide coaching and course correction
  • Reinforce expectations and maintain engagement
4. End of Year Review (Final Evaluation)
  • Perform full evaluation using:
    • Skills Checklist
    • Performance Scoring System (100 point model)
  • Determine outcome:
    • Remain at current tier
    • Advance tier (A B C)
    • Advance level (1 2 3)
  • Submit results to Senior Management for approval and compensation adjustment
Evaluation & Promotion Responsibilities
  • Ensure evaluations are:
    • Object
    • Consistent
    • Based on measurable performance
  • Track:
    • Skill progression
    • Production metrics
    • Quality performance (repair/reject rates)
  • Partner with QA/QC in evaluation process
  • Maintain proper documentation of all reviews
Training & Development
  • Actively teach, train, and develop welders at all levels
  • Ensure Lead Welders are mentoring Level 1 and Level 2 employees
  • Identify skill gaps and coordinate targeted training
  • Accelerate development of high performers
Program Objective The Foreman is accountable for ensuring the progression system achieves its core purpose:
  • Develop welders as fast as possible
  • Promote from within whenever possible
  • Reduce turnover and retain skilled employees
  • Creating a positive, growth focused shop culture
  • Maintain high morale through clear advancement opportunities
Reporting Structure
  • Reports to: Production Manager / Shop Manager
  • Direct Reports: 2-3 Lead Welders (Level 3B/3C)
  • Indirect Reports: Welders and Fabricators (Levels 1-3)
Role Summary
  • Level 1-3 Welders: Learn and execute
  • Lead Welders (3B/3C): Lead small crews
  • Foreman: Leads leaders, owns production, owns development system
Required Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in code welding and fabrication (FCAW, SAW required; GTAW/SMAW preferred)
  • Strong understanding of fabrication sequencing, distortion control, tank/vessel construction
  • Proven leadership experience (Lead Welder or equivalent)
  • Deep knowledge of ASME/API codes and quality requirements
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple crews and priorities

  • On time completion of fabrication schedules
  • Low repair/rework rates aligned with advanced production (
  • High crew productivity and efficiency
  • Strong development and promotion of welders
  • Consistent execution of evaluation and progression system

Essential Job Functions (Fabrication Shop)

The following duties are considered essential to production roles at the Fabrication Shop:

Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods (8-12+ hour shifts)
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for prolonged periods
  • Reach overhead and work with arms extended
  • Climb ladders, work in manlifts up to 25 feet above ground
  • Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights when required
Work Environment
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and industrial hazards
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times
Schedule Requirements
  • Ability to work extended hours, including overtime, weekends, or swing shifts as needed to meet project deadlines
