Events & Community manager

Human time and effort is the rarest thing in the universe. The fact that so many people hate what they do for work is a disaster on so many levels. How many people live quiet lives of misery? How many generational talents do we miss due to circumstance?
Our mission is to close the gap between Talent & Opportunity. We believe that work, and being productive, is part of the human condition, that regardless of AI, human passion, ingenuity and a desire to do things means that work will always exist. We are building Dex to create a future where technology helps every individual to understand their strengths, interests and unique abilities, and to connect with opportunities where they can thrive, because more people doing things they love leads to a better, happier and more productive world.
We're starting by connecting the world's most ambitious software engineers with the companies that deserve them.
About DexDex is backed by leading investors a16z and Concept Ventures, with angels from OpenAI, Wise, ElevenLabs, Meta's board, and many more. We're an ambitious, direct and kind group of people, we value authenticity, ambition and people who make things happen.
We work with many of the world's most exciting technology companies, like ElevenLabs, Granola, Incident.io, Lovable, Fyxer, a number of the worlds leading trading firms and many. many more.
We're already known as the place where engineers can find the very best opportunities, and we're growing fast.
About the RoleWe want Dex to be the brand that senior software engineers in London (and beyond) actually turn up for. The dinner they rearrange their week to attend. The community they feel genuinely part of, not marketed to. That doesn't happen by accident, and it doesn't happen by running another generic tech meetup with warm lager and a panel. It happens because someone with taste, energy and an obsessive eye for detail is building it.
That's this role. You'll own the events calendar end to end and be the face of the Dex community. We already run curated gatherings for engineers and founders, it's live and working, and now needs a dedicated owner who can raise the bar.
In this role you will:
Own the end to end events calendar, from intimate engineer dinners through to larger flagship moments, ideating formats, booking venues, managing speakers, running invites, logistics, budgets and on the night execution.
Host. You are the face in the room, setting the tone, making introductions, making sure the right people meet the right people.
Grow and nurture our community of senior engineers, turning one-off attendees into genuine regulars who bring their best friends next time.
Partner with the wider organisation to capture and create content and brand moments that come out of the community (interviews, recap pieces, social, partnerships).
Shape our follow up and engagement approach, helping us to compound with each event rather than start from scratch.
You've run high quality events, you understand how to bring all the components together to ensure a successful event, and enjoy doing it.
You are part of, or deeply understand technical and developer audiences, you might not have been an engineer, but you understand the memes, the references and what this audience likes.
You have a eye for detail and care that things go well, you think about even the smallest details.
Organised to the point of being slightly intense about it. Guest lists, schedules, budgets, suppliers, you run it all and nothing slips.
You can host. You're warm, charismatic and unfazed by a room full of senior engineers and founders. People remember you.
Commercial. You understand events and community are part of building our business, you know the difference between an event that was well attended, and one that the right people went to.
AI fluent. Everyone on this team uses agents to move faster. You aren't an exception.
Ambitious and a good human. Fun to work with, direct, gets things done.
Note: We know that talent can't be summed up in a few bullet points. Even if you don't match everything we've mentioned, we don't want that to be a barrier. If you're excited about what we're building, we want to hear from you.
Dex represents an opportunity to join a well funded, early stage business that is solving a real and relatable problem in a gigantic market. Community and events in tech are mostly a wasteland of beige panels and networking bingo, you'll have the remit, the budget and the team backing to build something people actually look forward to. We work in a market that has an absolute dearth of intentional community building, we want to stand out from that.
There will be a generational company built in this space, we believe it's going to be Dex.
