Estates & Facilities Manager
Location: Crystal Palace Park (fully site-based)
Pay: £40,000 full-time equivalent annual salary
Hours: Full-time (5 days) preferred; part-time (3-4 days/week) considered
Contract: 6-month Fixed-Term Contract (Maternity cover)
Charity People are delighted to be working a Trust based in Crystal Palace, responsible for the management of one of London's most historic and vibrant green spaces. The park is home to woodlands, lakes, playgrounds, heritage assets, and cultural landmarks, welcoming thousands of visitors every year.
We are looking for an experienced Estates & Facilities Manager to join their dedicated Parks Management team on a 6-month maternity cover contract. This is a key role overseeing compliance, health and safety, and the day-to-day management of the park's facilities, buildings, and heritage assets. The role is varied and hands-on, ideal for someone who enjoys balancing operational delivery with stakeholder and contractor management.
Key Responsibilities
Heritage Management
- Ensure the park's listed and unlisted heritage features are protected, assessed, and maintained.
- Procure and manage consultants/contractors to deliver inspections, surveys, and conservation works.
- Update and implement the park's Conservation Management Plan and Heritage Maintenance Plan.
Contract & Risk Management
- Manage contracts and leases for buildings and facilities, ensuring obligations are met.
- Oversee contractors (security, landscape, maintenance) and ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Produce and update risk assessments and risk registers.
Facilities Management
- Develop and deliver a facilities monitoring and maintenance plan.
- Implement cleaning, security, repair, and compliance schedules.
- Oversee maintenance of varied park buildings and facilities, including toilets, playgrounds, café, museum, concert platform, and subway.
Health & Safety & Compliance
- Act as operational H&S lead for the estate.
- Ensure compliance with legislation and regulations (planning, H&S, heritage, environmental, fire, water, Equality Act, GDPR).
- Support environmental and sustainability commitments.
- Participate in the park's duty management rota.
About You
- Proven experience in estates and facilities management, ideally in a public space or heritage environment.
- Strong understanding of compliance, health & safety, and risk management.
- Experience managing contracts, leases, and external contractors.
- Knowledge of heritage conservation or listed building management (desirable).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Flexible, proactive, and solutions-focused approach.
