The Bedford Estate, Woburn

A Rare Opportunity at the Heart of a Historic Estate

The Bedford Estates is seeking an experienced and motivated Estates Administration Manager or Estates Surveyor to join the Property Team at the historic Woburn Estate.

This is a rare opportunity to play a key role in managing a diverse and evolving property portfolio across one of Britain's most significant historic estates.

Working closely with the Property Director, you will help manage a wide-ranging estate that includes residential homes, commercial premises, agricultural property, and heritage assets. You will be part of a collaborative team responsible for maintaining the long term stewardship, commercial performance, and operational effectiveness of the Estate.

For candidates who are RICS qualified with at least two years post qualification experience, the role may be appointed at Estates Surveyor level. We will also consider highly experienced candidates without formal RICS qualifications who bring strong practical experience across estate management and property operations.

This is a varied and rewarding role where professional expertise, commercial awareness, and attention to detail are essential.

About the Role

The role supports the day to day management of the Estate's property portfolio, ensuring the effective administration, performance, and development of residential and commercial properties.

Working with colleagues across the Property Team and wider Estate, responsibilities will include:

  • Managing aspects of the Estate's residential, rural and commercial property portfolio
  • Supporting the letting, renewal, and negotiation of property agreements
  • Liaising with tenants, agents, solicitors, and other professional advisers
  • Working closely with the Building Maintenance team to ensure properties are well maintained and suitable for letting or sale
  • Identifying potential voids and coordinating refurbishment planning
  • Supporting the Property Director in delivering the department's income targets
  • Managing estate records and property information systems, including Qube
  • Preparing reports on rent, debtors, and estate management matters
  • Supporting the preparation and monitoring of property budgets
  • Assisting with property disposals and managing appointed agents where required
  • Overseeing estate administration processes including insurance, energy procurement, and fleet administration
  • Managing members of the Estate Management team and supporting their development

This role requires a proactive approach, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to balance commercial priorities with the long term stewardship of the Estate.

About You

We are looking for a capable and commercially minded individual who enjoys working in a varied environment and taking ownership of their responsibilities.

You may be:

  • A qualified RICS Surveyor (Rural Practice or similar) with at least two years PQE, or
  • An experienced estate or property professional with significant relevant experience managing property portfolios.

You will bring:

  • Experience working within estate management, property management, or surveying
  • Knowledge of property lettings, property legislation, and property administration
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Confidence working with tenants, professional advisers, and internal stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and sound commercial judgement
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office and property management systems
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team
