Job Description

During an exciting time of expansion, we have a new vacancy for an Environment & Quality Engineer to join our team based at our Hastings Head Office to ensure the robust maintenance and continuous improvement of the company's Quality Management System and Environmental Management System. This is a full-time permanent role working 35 hours per week.

What are the main duties of this role?
  • Supervise the maintenance of effective policies, processes, documents, and procedures to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) standards.
  • Ensure that QE (Quality and Environmental) systems are integrated and operate cohesively across the organisation.
  • Stay updated on changes to ISO standards and relevant legislation, implementing necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
  • Conduct and report on internal audits for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, identifying non-conformities and opportunities for improvement.
  • Facilitate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) resulting from audits, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Maintain comprehensive audit trails and documentation to demonstrate system effectiveness.
Sustainability & Net Zero Project:
  • Supervise data gathering and analysis for the company's Net Zero and sustainability projects.
  • Responsible for accurate data submission to the Planet Mark portal and other relevant online platforms.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives and targets.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor quality control plans and inspection procedures for manufactured products and processes.
  • Analyse quality data, identify trends, and implement root cause analysis for non-conformities.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities using methodologies like Lean Six Sigma to enhance product quality, reduce waste, and improve efficiency.
  • Define and refine criteria for test results and product acceptance.
  • Create, maintain, and control quality and environmental documentation, including procedures, work instructions, and records.
  • Prepare regular reports on quality performance, environmental metrics, and project progress for management review.
  • Work collaboratively with R&D, Production, Sales, and other departments to embed quality and environmental principles throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Provide training and support to colleagues on management system requirements, quality tools, and environmental best practices, when relevant.
What we are looking for:
  • Level 5 Qualification in Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of proven experience in working with and managing ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 requirements within a manufacturing, sales, and distribution environment.
  • Full UK Driving License
  • Experience in conducting internal audits and driving CAPA processes.
  • Strong understanding of quality management principles, tools, and methodologies (e.g., FMEA, SPC, 8D).
  • Experience in data gathering, analysis, and reporting for sustainability or environmental projects.
  • Clear understanding of the implications/requirements and the application of health, safety, quality, waste, and environmental standards.
  • Experience in the administrative and clerical work associated with the control of a management system, including appropriate recording and retrieval of data.
  • An ability to communicate and provide appropriate policy and procedural documentation along with training and support, to enable the effective application of Company management systems.
  • Experience in basic project management to meet milestones that are created internally and externally.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in various software associated with job functions, including data analysis tools and potentially bespoke systems.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Net Zero, Ecovadis and other environmental standards is desirable but not essential.
