Job Description
Job Overview 
Full time English Teacher (Second in Department) at a supportive secondary school in Smethwick/Birmingham area. Role involves teaching students and leading the English department.
Key Responsibilities- Teach and deliver comprehensive, high quality English lessons for KS3 and KS4.
- Utilise innovative teaching methods to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of reading and writing.
- Assess student progress, maintain accurate performance records, and provide constructive feedback.
- Support the Head of English in strategic running, management, and leadership of the department.
- Assist in designing, developing, and reviewing an engaging, high impact curriculum.
- Lead on specific key stages, areas of the curriculum, or departmental initiatives (e.g., literacy intervention, KS3 coordination, exam preparation).
- Mentor, coach, and collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and foster a cohesive learning community.
- Deputise for the Head of Department when required, including leading team meetings and managing resources.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Proven track record of delivering excellent student outcomes in English at KS3 and KS4.
- Experience or clear readiness to take on leadership responsibilities, mentor staff, and drive curriculum development.
- Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain).
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
