Job Description
Job Overview

Full time English Teacher (Second in Department) at a supportive secondary school in Smethwick/Birmingham area. Role involves teaching students and leading the English department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach and deliver comprehensive, high quality English lessons for KS3 and KS4.
  • Utilise innovative teaching methods to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of reading and writing.
  • Assess student progress, maintain accurate performance records, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Support the Head of English in strategic running, management, and leadership of the department.
  • Assist in designing, developing, and reviewing an engaging, high impact curriculum.
  • Lead on specific key stages, areas of the curriculum, or departmental initiatives (e.g., literacy intervention, KS3 coordination, exam preparation).
  • Mentor, coach, and collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and foster a cohesive learning community.
  • Deputise for the Head of Department when required, including leading team meetings and managing resources.
Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Proven track record of delivering excellent student outcomes in English at KS3 and KS4.
  • Experience or clear readiness to take on leadership responsibilities, mentor staff, and drive curriculum development.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain).
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Deep passion for education and commitment to student success and inclusivity.
