We are seeking an Engineering Technical Training Manager to help lead and develop the R&B Switchgear Academy, delivering high quality theoretical and practical training across our LV, MV, and HV switchgear operations. This is a key role within the business, supporting engineers and apprentices from the workshop floor through to commissioning and project delivery, while ensuring the Academy remains recognised as a leading Electrical Switchgear & Power Engineering training provider.
This role has direct responsibility for developing and delivering technical training programmes, mentoring staff, and ensuring all training activities align with current, safety requirements, and evolving technologies.
Your new roleYou will be responsible for designing and delivering structured, workshop led technical training across LV, MV, and HV switchgear manufacture, testing, commissioning, and fault finding. The role combines classroom based learning with practical demonstrations, hands on training, and direct technical support to engineering and project teams.
Working closely with engineering, production, and project teams, you will ensure training aligns with current standards, safety requirements, and evolving technologies, while improving technical consistency and capability across the organisation. You will also play an active role in supporting the visibility and reputation of the R&B Switchgear Academy through external engagement, events, and industry activity.
Your responsibilities- Conduct theoretical and practical training on LV, MV, and HV switchgear
- Clearly explain operating principles, protection schemes, and control logic
- Deliver in house training on manufacturing build standards, high value assembly processes, and quality checks
- Provide troubleshooting and fault analysis training based on real project experience
- Emphasise electrical safety, including arc flash awareness and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Ensure all training complies with IEC, IEEE, and relevant local standards
- Develop, update, and maintain training materials including presentations, manuals, assessments, and technical documentation
- Customise training programmes to suit project, product, and customer specific requirements
- Prepare and deliver practical exercises, demonstrations, and test scenarios
- Maintain training equipment, test rigs, and demonstration setups
- Provide ongoing technical clarification, mentoring, and support to internal teams
- Measure training effectiveness through competency assessments, feedback, and KPIs
- Contribute to the continued development and success of the R&B Switchgear Academy and internal talent pipeline
- Attend and support external events, awards ceremonies, college partnerships, and industry engagements to help maintain R&B's position as a leading academy in electrical switchgear and power engineering
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies, standards, and best practice in switchgear and power engineering

Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role with strong hands on experience in switchgear systems and manufacturing build processes
Strong technical knowledge of LV, MV, and HV switchgear
Solid understanding of protection principles and protection relays
Proven hands on troubleshooting and fault finding experience
Experience with protection relays from manufacturers such as ABB, Siemens, Schneider, GE, or similar
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
Proficient in MS PowerPoint, Word, and producing clear technical documentation
Comfortable delivering training in workshop, classroom, and on site environments
Strong organisational, planning, and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and mentor others
Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
Experience working with an OEM or utility
Previous experience delivering technical training or mentoring engineers
Relevant certifications in switchgear, protection systems, or electrical safety
Experience using testing equipment such as insulation resistance testing, breaker timing, and relay testing equipment
