Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced multi-skilled engineer with proven leadership skills to step into a role where you'll have genuine ownership of your shift's engineering performance. You'll be working in a modern, highly automated environment, leading a skilled team, and playing a pivotal part in keeping production running smoothly 24/7.

The Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you'll lead a team of 2-3 multi-skilled engineers per shift (plus apprentices and contractors when needed). You'll be responsible for:

  • Allocating and prioritising work, providing technical support and coaching
  • Responding to complex breakdowns and coordinating swift resolutions
  • Monitoring asset performance (OEE, downtime, MTTR/MTBF) and driving improvements
  • Ensuring preventive maintenance is completed on time and to standard
  • Leading by example on Health & Safety and Food Safety compliance
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and digital-first reporting
  • This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll balance people management with real-time problem-solving and performance optimisation.

About You

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

  • A recognised engineering qualification (NVQ L3 / HNC or equivalent) in mechanical or electrical disciplines
  • Proven experience in FMCG or food manufacturing environments
  • Strong fault-finding skills on PLC-controlled automated equipment
  • Experience allocating work, coaching colleagues, and managing team performance
  • A solid understanding of PUWER, LOLER, and other relevant safety legislation
  • Confidence using CMMS systems (MaintainX experience advantageous) and analysing performance data
  • Extra points if you have Lean/CI training (Six Sigma, 5S, SMED) or experience with pneumatic/steam systems.
