Job Description

Job Title: Shift Manager - Data Centre
Location: Slough

Overview
A global leader in critical facilities management is seeking an experienced Shift Manager to join their data centre operations team in Slough. This role is key to ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of business-critical infrastructure.
The successful candidate will oversee planned and reactive maintenance activities, coordinate daily shift operations, and act as the point of technical leadership during incidents. You will also play a central role in ensuring health and safety compliance, managing authorised work permits, and maintaining high standards across operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate shift teams, ensuring all maintenance and engineering works are delivered safely, on time, and to a high standard.
  • Ensure compliance with site policies, health & safety standards, and statutory requirements.
  • Operate as an Authorised Person, issuing permits, reviewing RAMS, and ensuring alignment with safe systems of work.
  • Manage incident response, including fault diagnosis and resolution in a live critical environment.
  • Maintain and oversee documentation including switching schedules, SOPs, EOPs, statutory logbooks, and subcontractor records.
  • Support training and development of shift engineers, including toolbox talks, mentoring, and technical drills.
  • Manage shift rotas, holiday requests, and sickness reporting.
  • Ensure spare parts and consumables are appropriately managed and available for maintenance needs.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and professional working relationship with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Provide technical leadership, performance reviews, and development support for shift engineers.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Recognised electrical qualifications (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • HV Authorisation and current Wiring Regulations certificate.
  • Experience managing maintenance and incidents in a data centre or business-critical environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UPS, standby power, cooling, BMS, and fire systems.
  • Emergency First Aid at Work qualification (preferred).
  • PASMA & IPAF certification (advantageous).
  • Demonstrable leadership skills with experience supervising engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety obligations, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work under pressure and engage with clients.
  • Self-motivated, organised, and capable of prioritising tasks in high-pressure environments.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, with ability to respond to unplanned incidents.
