Job Description

Community Engagement Volunteers

Are you friendly, chatty, and passionate about making a difference in your community? Our Community Engagement Volunteers help us raise awareness and build relationships at events across the area. Whether it's attending cheque presentations, quiz nights or civic engagement events, this is a flexible role perfect for someone (or even a pair of friends!) who wants to give back without a fixed schedule.

What you'll do:

Attend local events to represent Derian House

Support cheque presentations and fundraising activities

Chat with supporters and raise awareness of our services

Help strengthen relationships within the community

What we're looking for:

Friendly, confident, and approachable

Reliable, trustworthy, and organised

Comfortable chatting with a variety of people

Ability to drive with a full, clean licence

What's in it for you?

Gain valuable experience for your CV

Make a real difference to our babies, children, young people and their families

Meet new people and build connections

Flexible volunteering that fits around you

Boost your confidence and communication skills

Time commitment:

Flexible, as and when opportunities arise - This is a casual, pool based role. You can sign up to support events, cheque presentations, or awareness opportunities that fit around your availability.

Most activities take place during weekdays, evenings, or weekends, and you'll always receive advance notice so you can choose what works for you.

There is no minimum commitment - you can get involved as little or as often as you like.

Training & Support:

Induction training - A short introduction to the hospice, our values, and how your role helps support local families.

Awareness of our services - Basic knowledge about what we do so you feel comfortable talking to the public and answering simple questions.

Fundraising & event guidance - Information on how to represent us at events, including handling donations, promoting campaigns, and engaging supporters.

Communication tips - Friendly guidance on how to approach people, start conversations, and share our story with confidence.

Health & safety briefing - Simple guidance relevant to attending events safely.

Ongoing support - You'll always have a named contact from the team, plus clear instructions before each event.

Expenses:

We'll cover agreed travel costs. You'll just need your own car with business insurance, MOT, and a clean driving licence.

Please note:

The minimum age for volunteering in this role is 18 years.

We ask all applicants to disclose, in confidence, any unspent criminal convictions in advance of a DBS check.

All volunteers are required to wear a uniform, which will be provided free of charge.

Interested? We'd love to hear from you!
