Job Description

Lucy Legal LLP has been at the heart of the legal profession for two centuries, building a reputation grounded in rigorous expertise, client trust, and principled practice. Today, we remain committed to delivering exceptional legal counsel across core practice areas, with our Employment team increasingly at the forefront of evolving workplace law. This is a genuine opportunity to join a firm where institutional knowledge runs deep, but where fresh perspectives are genuinely valued-a rare combination in the legal market.

The role of Employment Solicitor sits within a thriving practice that advises both employers and employees on everything from settlement agreements and tribunal representation to organisational restructuring and HR compliance. You'll work alongside partners with genuine depth in employment law, handling a diverse caseload that keeps you intellectually engaged and prevents the monotony that can characterise high-volume practices. Whether you're advising on complex redundancy scenarios, defending unfair dismissal claims, or navigating the intricacies of disciplinary procedures, the work carries real weight and real client impact.

Your day-to-day will involve drafting settlement agreements and tribunal pleadings, taking witness statements, advising on statutory compliance and contractual issues, and preparing cases for hearing. You'll manage your own matters from inception through resolution, attending client meetings and court appearances with the expectation that you'll develop your own client relationships over time. We don't believe in relegating junior lawyers to research-only roles; you'll be in the room, developing advocacy skills and commercial judgment from day one.

We see this role as a natural stepping stone. Solicitors who join us at this level typically progress to senior associate or counsel positions within four to five years, depending on aptitude and interest. Some move toward partnership; others specialise further or take their expertise to in-house teams. We invest in people we believe in, which means mentoring, training, and genuine career conversations-not just annual appraisals.
