Job Description

We are looking for an individual who aspires to work in Mental Health and Employment Support. Your role will involve supporting individuals to gain employment, retain current employment and return to work after a period of absence. This could be to help with job retention, liaison with employers or assisting people in finding and keeping paid or voluntary work. It is important to understand the principles of the Equalities Act and how it relates to Employment Rights.

Main Duties of the job

Mental Health Matters (MHM) is recruiting an Employment Recovery Worker to join the South Tyneside Connect to Work team, delivering a new supported employment service over the next three years, in partnership with Northern Rights, a well established social enterprise based in the North East that specialises in employment, skills, and wellbeing support. The role involves lone working with clients on a one to one basis through phone, video, or face to face in community locations. You will self manage a caseload, set realistic employment goals and action plans, and promote the service within the wider community by liaising with external agencies such as Job Centre Plus and community providers. A driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable.

Job Responsibilities

Employment Recovery Worker
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £25,958 per annum with progression up to £28,662 per annum
Based: South Tyneside

Essential tasks include:

  • Support individuals to gain employment, retain current employment and return to work after absence.
  • Set realistic employment goals and action plans.
  • Liaise with employers and external agencies to promote the service.
  • Work in line with MHM values and community based service principles.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, or willingness to work towards, in the areas of Advice and Guidance, Health and Social Care or Customer Service.
  • Awareness and/or experience of working with people who have experienced mental health issues is an advantage.
Experience
  • Experience working within Mental Health; ability to inspire and engage people, identify barriers and understand client needs, with excellent motivational skills.
  • Supporting people within the employment sector, with knowledge of employment rights and job retention is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of employment law, the principles of the Equalities Act 2010, and how it relates to employment rights is beneficial.
