Job Description

To provide a general reception service to all personnel who access the Emergency Department and Clinical Decisions Unit. This includes contact with the general public as well as a wide range of other health care professionals. The post holder will be required to use a designated computer system to enter patient data, combined with general office and clerical duties.

Main duties of the job
  • Answer all telephone queries relating to patients' attendance and general advice, redirecting to the appropriate source where necessary.
  • Effective communication between clinical and non-clinical staff with the trust.
  • Responsibility for patient care and alert the triage nurse of any potentially unwell patients booked into the department.

Job responsibilities

To provide a general reception service to all personnel who access the Emergency Department and Clinical Decisions Unit. This includes contact with the general public as well as a wide range of other health care professionals. The post holder will be required to use a designated computer system to enter patient data, combined with general office and clerical duties.

The post holder will be required to participate in the departments rota system, which includes nights, weekends and bank holidays. The role requires rotation through the various departments within the Emergency Department such as ED main Reception, RAU ambulance desk, Clinical Decisions Unit and potentially Paediatrics.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trusts policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.

If successful this vacancy will require a Standard DBS check at a cost of £26.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
