Job Title: Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Location: Bedford
Hours: 07:30 - 16:00
OverviewWe are seeking a highly motivated and multi-skilled Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our team at a fast-paced manufacturing facility. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of all plant machinery and production equipment through proactive maintenance, rapid fault-finding, and effective repair.
Key Responsibilities- Perform reactive and planned preventative maintenance to minimise machine downtime.
- Troubleshoot and repair complex production machinery, including electrical and mechanical systems.
- Ensure compliance with all industrial safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout procedures and high-voltage safety protocols.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and maintenance manuals to accurately diagnose faults.
- Identify and implement engineering improvements to enhance machinery performance, reliability, and yield.
- Work flexibly across various site areas, including heights, confined spaces, or areas with varying temperatures and dust levels.
- Collaborate effectively with production staff, engineers, and management to communicate maintenance issues and planned schedules.
- Manufacturing Background (Essential): Proven hands-on experience as a Maintenance Engineer in a high-volume manufacturing or industrial environment, with experience maintaining continuous running plant under strict production schedules.
- Electro-Mechanical Expertise: Strong competence in both electrical and mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Electrical Fault Finding: Expert in diagnosing and rectifying faults on PLC-controlled systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley), motor control circuits, VSDs, contactors, sensors, and three-phase power systems.
- Mechanical Expertise: Skilled in maintaining and repairing power transmission systems (gearboxes, chains, belts), pneumatic and hydraulic systems, pumps, conveyors, and precision mechanical assemblies.
- Hands-on Engineering Experience: Proven ability to carry out reactive and preventative maintenance to improve overall equipment effectiveness.
- Technical and Operational Skills
- Safety Focus: Thorough understanding of industrial safety standards and protocols.
- Diagnostic Proficiency: Ability to interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics, and mechanical blueprints to resolve complex issues efficiently.
- Continuous Improvement: Experience implementing engineering modifications to improve machinery performance and reliability.
- Attitude and Workplace Flexibility
- Adaptability: Willingness to work in diverse environments and adjust to operational demands.
- Teamwork & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with production teams, engineers, and management.
- Recognised Engineering Qualification (e.g., HNC/HND, City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 apprenticeship, or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
- Valid UK Driving Licence.
