Job Description
NES Fircroft is working with a global engineering company seeking to add an Electrical Engineer to their Christchurch office.

The Electrical and Automation discipline within the Engineering Department is responsible for the engineering of specific project components. Project responsibilities include productivity, technical output, resource control, progress, product standardization, health & safety, and compliance.


Responsibilities:
  • Produce, monitor, and verify that design documentation (drawings, specifications, schedules, calculations, manuals, etc.) is technically compliant, cost-effective, and meets project requirements, company procedures, and statutory obligations.
  • Specify electrical, instrumentation, and control requirements for mechanical/fluids equipment on projects.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Engineer or Product Owner to ensure successful and commercially viable project execution, including monitoring budgets, progress, and change management.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and statutory obligations. Participate in project design and safety reviews, risk assessments, and lead electrical design and safety reviews.
  • Report to the departmental or project manager on all project-related matters.
  • Coordinate and monitor third-party design, manufacturing, and assembly outputs to meet project and statutory requirements.
  • Provide technical support during manufacturing, assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning, both in the office and on-site.

Experience & Qualifications:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or HNC/HND with industry experience.
  • Experience in the metals industry is advantageous.
  • Experience with process machinery in an Electrical Engineering role.
  • At least 5 years of electrical engineering experience.
  • Strong electrical concept, basic, and detailed design skills, capable of working independently or in teams to produce innovative and robust designs.
  • Proficiency in EPLAN P8 electrical schematic design.
  • Ability to perform design calculations, e.g., using MathCAD or Microsoft Excel.
  • Basic CAD skills, preferably Autodesk; training can be provided.
  • Knowledge of environmental, health & safety, and technical regulations.
  • Experience with low voltage control, 3-phase 400VAC power, and cable scheduling for equipment interconnections is preferred.
  • Desirable skills include PLC systems, instrumentation hardware/software (Siemens S7, TIA Portal, WinCC), and advanced 3D CAD skills.
  • Willingness to travel to customer and supplier sites, sometimes with short notice, and to work outside normal hours.
