EHS Coordinator - Data Centre

Role Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced EHS Coordinator with proven experience working within data centre, critical infrastructure, construction, or high-risk engineering environments.

The successful candidate will support the implementation and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health & Safety standards across the data centre project/site. Working closely with project management, contractors, subcontractors and the wider EHS team, the EHS Coordinator will help ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements and all applicable health, safety and environmental legislation.

The role requires a proactive individual who is confident working in a fast-paced construction environment and can effectively engage with multiple contractors and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety

• Support the EHS Manager in implementing the site EHS management system.

• Conduct regular site inspections, audits and behavioural safety observations.

• Identify hazards and unsafe practices and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.

• Assist with risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.

• Monitor compliance with site rules, permit-to-work systems and client EHS requirements.

• Support the investigation of incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences.

• Assist with developing and delivering toolbox talks, safety briefings and EHS inductions.

• Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with EHS requirements.

• Maintain accurate records of inspections, observations, corrective actions and incidents.

• Participate in daily and weekly EHS meetings.

• Promote a positive safety culture throughout the project.

• Support emergency preparedness exercises and ensure emergency arrangements remain effective.

• Assist with monitoring high-risk activities including lifting operations, work at height, electrical works, confined spaces, hot works and temporary works.

Data Centre/Critical Infrastructure

• Work within a live, mission-critical data centre construction environment, where safety, quality and operational continuity are key priorities.

• Understand the additional controls required for critical infrastructure and data centre projects.

• Support coordination of multiple contractors working simultaneously within controlled areas.

• Assist with EHS controls associated with mechanical, electrical, commissioning and fit-out activities.

• Support safe systems of work around energisation, electrical installations and commissioning activities.

• Ensure construction activities do not compromise critical infrastructure, adjacent operations or client requirements.

• Work closely with construction, commissioning and facilities teams to identify and manage interface risks.

Environmental

• Support implementation of the project's environmental management requirements.

• Monitor waste management, recycling and housekeeping standards.

• Assist with environmental inspections and reporting.

• Identify and report potential environmental risks or non-conformances.

• Support compliance with environmental legislation, permits and client requirements.

Reporting & Administration

• Maintain accurate EHS documentation and records.

• Prepare weekly and monthly EHS reports and statistics.

• Track corrective and preventative actions through to close-out.

• Assist with maintaining EHS dashboards and performance metrics.

• Ensure relevant EHS documentation is available and controlled on site.

• Support internal, client and external audits.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

• Previous experience in an EHS/HSE/Safety Coordinator role.

• Experience working within data centres, critical infrastructure, construction, MEP, engineering or similarly high-risk environments.

• Strong understanding of construction health and safety requirements.

• Experience conducting site inspections and safety audits.

• Experience with risk assessments, method statements and permit-to-work systems.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work effectively with contractors, subcontractors and project management teams.

• Good organisational and documentation skills.

• Proactive approach to identifying and resolving EHS issues.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing project environment.

Desirable

• Previous experience on hyperscale data centre projects.

• Experience with MEP installation and commissioning activities.

• Knowledge of electrical and mechanical construction risks.

• Experience working within a client-controlled EHS management system.

• Experience with incident investigation and root-cause analysis.

• Environmental management experience.

• Familiarity with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.

• Experience using digital EHS reporting/inspection platforms.

Qualifications

A relevant EHS, Health & Safety, Environmental, Engineering or Construction qualification is preferred.

Relevant professional qualifications or memberships may include:

• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.

• IOSH membership or equivalent professional body.

• Relevant construction safety qualification.

• First Aid qualification.

• Manual Handling/Working at Height/Fire Safety training.

• Additional specialist EHS qualifications relevant to the project.

Working Environment

This is a site-based position within a highly controlled data centre construction environment. The successful candidate should be comfortable working around construction activities, contractors, heavy equipment, MEP installations and commissioning activities.

The role may require working extended hours, shifts or weekends depending on project requirements.
