The EHC Plan Writer role is pivotal role in preparing, amending, and maintaining Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Plans to ensure they remain current and reflective of students' views, needs, outcomes, and provisions.
This role involves administering the plan writing and amendment process, collaborating with relevant stakeholders, and recommending service improvements to enhance the delivery of support for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN). The role is key in supporting all colleagues to become excellent plan writers and has a responsibility for training new and existing staff and contributing towards quality assurance within the team.
Key Responsibilities:Writing Detailed EHC Plans: Creating legally compliant and personalised EHC Plans that clearly outline the student's needs, outcomes and the specific provisions required.
Championing the use of AI
Collaborating with Multi-Disciplinary Teams: Liaising with professionals from education, health, and social care to gather all necessary information for the plan.
Ensuring Legal Compliance: Making sure that all EHC Plans adhere to the legal frameworks established by the Children and Families Act 2014, the SEND Code of Practice and all relevant case law.
Updating and Reviewing EHC Plans: Ensuring that plans are kept up-to-date, particularly during key educational transitions or when there are significant changes to a student's needs.
Supporting Families: Providing advice and guidance to families throughout the EHC planning process, helping them understand their rights and the support their child will receive.
Contributing to data/statistics: Collation for statutory returns and service planning.
Providing support: Training and supporting colleagues and providing cover to the wider SEND Practitioner team & the Senior QA Officer as needed.
Assisting in developing best practices and procedures for EHC Plan writing and amending.
Quality assuring the work of others and providing feedback.
In addition to the role specific criteria, to be shortlisted for this position your CV and cover letter will clearly evidence:- Relevant experience in education, social care, health or local authority teams.
This may include personal or volunteering experience.
- The ability to take the lead on complex plan writing, with evidencing the ability to write complex reports and synthesis information.
This may be evidenced through work experience, through education (for example essay writing) or through other experience.
Evidence that can work flexibly and effectively under pressure, be resilient and be solution focused when facing challenges.
Evidence of the ability to make decisions in relation to children and young people based on sound assessment of needs and appraisal of available options.
