Job Description
Summary 
An E&I Construction Manager is required for a biopharmaceutical company in West Cork. The successful candidate will be responsible for the on-site supervision and management of Electrical & Instrumentation construction activities as part of a multi-discipline project delivery team within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. The role will be based on site and will focus on safe, compliant, and efficient execution of E&I construction works in line with project schedules, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities- Work closely with the E&I Engineer to ensure alignment across all technical and construction activities.
- Act as the lead for E&I construction activities, ensuring works are executed in accordance with design specifications, project procedures, and GMP requirements.
- Supervise and coordinate E&I contractors and subcontractors during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Manage daily site activities including work planning, task sequencing, and interface coordination with other disciplines (CSA, Mechanical, Process, Automation).
- Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) requirements, including toolbox talks, permit-to-work systems, RAMS reviews, and safe systems of work.
- Monitor construction progress against schedule, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions where required.
- Review and interpret E&I drawings, specifications, schedules, loop diagrams, and vendor documentation to ensure constructability and correct installation.
- Coordinate with Project Engineers, QA, and Commissioning teams to support pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover activities.
- Track and report construction progress, labour productivity, and key milestones to project management.
- Support contractor selection, mobilisation, and performance management.
- Participate in constructability reviews, safety reviews, and site audits.
- Manage punch lists, snag resolution, and close-out documentation.
- Ensure installation works meet GMP, ATEX, IEC, IEEE, and site-specific standards as applicable.
- Degree or Trade Qualification in Electrical, Instrumentation, or related Engineering discipline is preferred.
- 10+ years' experience in E&I construction environments, with a strong focus on pharmaceutical or biotechnology projects.
- Proven experience supervising E&I installation works including: power distribution, MCCs and panels, instrumentation installation and calibration, control panels and field cabling, earthing and bonding systems and hazardous area installations (ATEX).
- Strong working knowledge of GMP construction practices and documentation requirements.
- Experience working on live pharmaceutical sites with strict safety and quality controls.
- Proficiency in a Windows-based environment and construction/project software (e.g. Word, Excel, MS Project).
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage contractors and interface effectively with client and project teams.
- Previous experience managing/supervising E&I construction works within pharmaceutical or biotechnology facilities is essential.
