Clearance: Active UK Developed Vetting (DV) required

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced DV Cleared Linux Systems Administrator to join our secure operations team. Working within a high-security environment, you will be responsible for maintaining, supporting, and optimising Linux-based systems that underpin mission-critical services for government and defence-sector customers.

This position is ideal for a highly skilled engineer who thrives in a secure, fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering reliable, stable, and secure infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, and maintain Linux Servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar) in a secure, multi-system environment.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
  • Perform patching, updates, and security hardening in accordance with strict governance and compliance requirements.
  • Support secure networks, storage solutions, and virtualised environments (VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V).
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls following least-privilege principles.
  • Produce and maintain system documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Work closely with security teams to ensure systems remain compliant with internal and external standards.
  • Support incident response, root-cause analysis, and service restoration activities.
  • Participate in on-call or out-of-hours support as required within the secure environment.

Skills & Experience

  • Active DV clearance (must be currently held and transferable).
  • Strong hands-on experience with Linux administration across production or secure environments.
  • Knowledge of Shell Scripting (Bash, Python, or similar).
  • Experience with secure configuration, system hardening, and compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with configuration management or automation tools (eg, Ansible, Puppet).
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Firewalls).
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, or equivalent).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a restricted environment.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Exposure to defence, government, or high-security environments.
  • Experience with DevOps tooling (Git, CI/CD, containers, Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of storage technologies (SAN/NAS).
  • Certifications such as RHCSA/RHCE, Linux+, or security-related qualifications.
