Job Description

Domestic Assistant (Cleaner)

25 hours per week (17:00pm - 22:00pm & 17:00pm - 20:00pm)

Responsibilities
  • To carry out systematic cleaning as required with the use of machinery and Microfibre cleaning system.
  • To practice safe handling of chemicals ensuring COSHH regulations are adhered to.
  • Be responsible for the correct use of waste streams as set out by the Trust for the safe disposal of waste and recycling.
  • Provide specialist cleaning, barrier/isolation.
  • Follow cleaning schedules in line with the national cleaning standards.
Job Responsibilities
  • To carry out systematic cleaning as required with the use of machinery and or Microfibre cleaning system or equivalent system.
  • To practice safe handling of chemicals, always following manufacturers instructions and ensuring COSHH regulations are adhered to.
  • To be responsible for the correct use of waste streams as set out by the Trust for the safe disposal of waste and recycling.
  • Responsible for the ordering and stock of domestic consumables and supplies for cleaning cupboards.
  • Responsible for checking and cleaning the Microfibre cleaning equipment or equivalent system on a daily basis and reporting defects with equipment to the Domestic Supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory training e.g. fire, manual handling and COSHH and other courses which may be required. Follows Trust policies in line with their role.
  • Responsible for ensuring documentation is filled out correctly e.g. flushing records, cleaning sign off records.
  • To provide specialist cleaning (barrier/isolation) exposure to bodily fluids and frequent unpleasant working conditions e.g. cleaning toilets, odours and smells.
  • Follows cleaning schedules set out by the Hotel Services Department in line with the national cleaning standards.
  • Occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances.
  • Concentration when using all types of cleaning equipment is required, occasional/frequent.
  • To communicate with other staff/visitors/patients as required. To be friendly, courteous and helpful.

Person Specification Qualifications and Professional Training
  • Good standard of general education.
  • GCSE English and Maths A-D grades or equivalent qualifications.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Demonstration of previous work experience paid or voluntary.
  • Dealing with people.
  • Customer Service and Customer focused awareness.
  • To have an understanding of the role.
  • To have an awareness- understanding of confidentiality.
  • Basic computer skills e.g. able to use email.
  • Awareness of COSHH.
  • Previous experience of working in a hospital/care environment.
  • Previous experience in the cleaning industry.
Skills and Abilities
  • Must be able to fulfil the physical requirements of the post to include manual handling, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, repetitive movements moving trolleys, beds etc.
  • Use a variety of equipment.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to understand the importance of confidentiality.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and apply in workplace.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
