Job Description
Domestic Assistant

Closing date: 27 April 2026

As a Domestic Assistant you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleaning across wards, offices, and public areas within a hospital setting. You will work as part of the domestic service team and the wider hospital community.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 15 hours per week, 17 00. Flexible to work bank holidays as required.

Entry requirements: No formal entry requirement, but NVQ Level 1 in cleaning may be required.

Training: Induction and relevant training will be provided upon starting.

Communication and caring skills: Good communication skills and a caring, sensitive approach are required.

Physical fitness: Ability to remain on your feet for long periods and use proper lifting and manual handling techniques.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain cleanliness of patient rooms, wards, toilets, and communal areas.
  • Clean utility rooms and perform deep cleaning operations as required.
  • Use appropriate equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaner, mops, electric floor cleaner) and cleaning chemicals safely.
  • Follow safety procedures, including fire procedures and escape routes, and complete relevant workplace training.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and maintain standards for clinical and non clinical areas.
  • Work as part of a team, prioritising and organising daily duties with initiative.
Qualifications
  • Level 1 functional skills in English and Maths.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • NVQ Level 1 in cleaning (or willingness to obtain).
Skills & Experience
  • Teamwork and communication skills.
  • Experience with standardised cleaning schedules.
  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment.
  • Understanding of Trust values and behaviours.
  • Knowledge of infection control and COSHH.
  • Previous domestic experience in a healthcare setting.
