Job Description

Working within our in-house Dispensary, you will be meeting and greeting patients and handing them their medication which have been dispensed, after checking relevant ID with patients or follow up on patient enquiries. On a rotational basis you will be working on administration, checking requests for medications have been actioned and followed up in a priority order, plus answering the phones, dealing with e-mail enquires and completing triage requests for medications. You will also be dealing with online prescription requests. As a Lead, you will be expected to lead the reception team within the dispensary. Dealing with complaints, staff queries, managing staff rotas.

Main duties of the job

Jobsummary:

Tohelp facilitate the smooth running of the Dispensary by undertakingadministrative and reception duties as directed by senior staff.

Toprovide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive andfriendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via thetelephone.

Asrequired, to receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriateservice or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

About us

The Dispensary team are a blend of reception staff who manage patient requests, telephone requests, face to face requests and electronic requests through either email, the online portal or through patient triage.

The Dispensary is part of Holmes Chapel Health Centre, which is located in the centre of Holmes Chapel. We have approximately 13,000 patients overall. Patients who live more than 1.6km from the health centre can also use our Dispensary for the medication, and so this gives extra patient choice.

The team are very busy, each and every day, working as a friendly team to delivery the highest customer service that we can.

Job responsibilities

Administration

Tohave a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures.

Towork in accordance of written protocols.

Reception

Greetall patients on arrival

Dealwith patient face to face queries and/or redirect where appropriate

Answeringthe telephone dealing with and/or directing enquiries as appropriate

GeneralDuties

Handingcompleted repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address

  • To cover allreception duties as necessary.
  • Each morning, open premises andsecurity hatches as required
  • Each morning retrieveanswerphone messages that have been left and pick up throughout the day
  • Each evening or at the end ofeach shift leave work station area tidy, ensuring any outstanding queriesor outstanding tasks/workload is passed over to the appropriate member ofstaff to ensure business continuity
  • Check each morning emailprescription requests and throughout the day

DispensaryDuties

  • Preparecomputerised repeat prescriptions for Dispenser following practiceprotocol and set out for verification and signature of doctor, whereapplicable
  • Maintainthe 72 hour prescription system
  • Maintainworkflow tasks allocated to GPs
  • Notto dispense medicines/drugs to unauthorised persons, whoever they may bewithout the doctors consent
  • Giveout dispensed items to patients, collecting monies/exemptions registeringall in the till

Undertakeany other duties as agreed with the Partnership

Checkclinical system for Warfarin results and use clinical system to check hospitalletters

Assistin putting new stock away as required

Other tasks

Ensurebuilding security have thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm

Anyother tasks allocated by managers

Person Specification Qualifications
  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
  • Working in a Dispensary or Community Pharmacy.
  • Recognised qualification in customer service.
