Director of Information Systems

We are seeking a visionary Director of Information Systems (IS) to lead our digital transformation efforts. This role will be responsible for shaping and executing a comprehensive strategy for our global IT systems, driving data excellence, and evolving our business applications to support innovation, growth, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Define and implement a forward-looking IS strategy aligned with business priorities.
• Identify and integrate emerging technologies to drive innovation and competitive edge.
• Lead major IT and digital transformation projects across departments globally.
• Collaborate with senior leaders to ensure technology empowers business strategy.

Operational & Infrastructure Management

• Oversee IT operations, systems infrastructure, cybersecurity, and support services.
• Ensure scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency of IT systems.
• Lead major systems upgrades and migrations, ensuring seamless business continuity.

Business Applications & Data Excellence

• Define and execute the roadmap for the evolution of core business applications.
• Oversee the integration and optimization of enterprise systems to enhance user experience and operational efficiency.
• Champion data governance, quality, and accessibility to support informed decision-making.
• Ensure alignment of business applications with organizational priorities and compliance requirements.

Team Leadership & Culture

• Build and inspire a high-performing IT team with a focus on accountability, growth, and innovation.
• Create a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Foster knowledge sharing and integration across business units.

Data Governance, Security & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOX).
• Develop security policies, manage risk, and respond proactively to cyber threats.
• Establish robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Financial & Vendor Management

• Own and optimize the IS budget, ensuring ROI from investments.
• Negotiate vendor contracts and oversee service provider performance.
• Balance cost control with strategic value delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as a key partner to executives, delivering insights that guide digital transformation.
• Promote IS as a business enabler and drive adoption of new technologies.
• Strengthen internal and external partnerships to support IT initiatives.

About You

We are looking for a transformative leader with the following background:

Education & Experience

• Bachelors in IT, Computer Science, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
• 10+ years in IT, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
• Experience managing global IT operations in a complex, multinational environment.
• Strong technical foundation across infrastructure, applications, and cybersecurity.
• Track record of successfully leading high-impact projects and change initiatives.

Leadership & Soft Skills

• Visionary, pragmatic, and results driven.
• Outstanding communicator and influencer across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Skilled in managing cross-functional teams and building strong partnerships.
• Experience in biotech/pharma or regulated industries is a strong plus.

Location & Flexibility

This global leadership role can be based in Mechelen, Belgium or Chicago, United States. Occasional international travel as needed.
