Working closely with the Policing, Fire and Crime Function of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, both organisations are investing in modern, collaborative and digitally-enabled ways of working.

To support this ambition, they are seeking an innovative Director of ICT to lead the strategic transformation and delivery of Information, Communications & Technology (ICT) across both services.

  • Oversee the development, implementation and continuous improvement of ICT policies, standards and operating procedures, ensuring compliance with national, statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert advice to the Chief Officer teams of both NYP and NYFRS, as well as the Deputy Mayor and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage budgets and resources, ensuring the responsible use of public money and identifying opportunities for innovation, cost savings and income generation.
  • Champion change and leading digital transformation programmes across both organisations.

What we're looking for

  • Degree-level education (or equivalent experience).
  • Extensive senior leadership experience within ICT in a large, complex and dynamic organisation.
  • A proven track record in service development, performance improvement and cost reduction.
  • Deep understanding of ICT-enabled business transformation in a fast-moving operational environment
  • A broad technical understanding and an interest in new and innovative technology
  • Strong political, social and organisational awareness.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and strategic thinking skills.
  • An emotionally intelligent and inspiring leader who will make a positive contribution as part of the broader leadership teams of both police and fire.
  • Ability to go through security vetting and medical clearance.

Benefits/Why Join Us?

Working for the emergency services offers a rare opportunity to contribute to meaningful, high-impact work that keeps communities safe. At NYP and NYFRS, we are committed to fairness, inclusion and professional growth. You'll join a progressive, collaborative leadership team that values diverse perspectives and fosters a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

You will also benefit from:

  • Fantastic Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Salary Sacrifice Car Scheme
  • Employee Benefits Scheme
  • Generous Annual Leave
  • Health Cash Plan
  • Blue Light Discount
  • Health & Wellbeing Services
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
