We're looking for a Director of Finance to help No Limits grow and sustain its impact for children and young people through strong financial leadership

Our Charity

No Limits is the leading youth services charity in Southampton, supporting children and young people in the city and across Hampshire.

At No Limits, it is important our staff and volunteers reflect, represent, and have experience of the challenges faced by the children and young people we support. We are proud of and appreciate our many staff and volunteers who use their own lived experience to support the children and young people they work with.

With this in mind, we are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in all aspects of our work and organisational culture - and when recruiting, it's important to us that we continue diversifying our staff and volunteer teams, with children and young people at the centre of everything we do. You can learn more about our DEI approach here .

When we talk about talent, we value the transferrable skills and experiences you can bring to No Limits, whether through work (in the same or a different sector), volunteering, or personal experiences. To make sure we get the best talent on our team, we are open to and actively encourage applications from all backgrounds and sections of the community, including diverse ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQIA+, disabled, and neurodiverse individuals.

Your Role

As Director of Finance, you will lead both the strategic and operational financial management of No Limits, alongside oversight of our Fundraising and Development function. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for shaping the charity's financial sustainability, commercial thinking, and income approach, ensuring we are well positioned to deliver our mission now and into the future.

You will hold overall accountability for the charity's financial leadership, leading financial strategy, planning and performance, and ensuring robust financial management, high quality insight and strong governance. You will play a central role in helping No Limits think commercially, balance risk and opportunity, and build a sustainable financial and income model that supports our work with children and young people.

While this is a strategic role, it is also hands on. We are looking for someone who is as comfortable working with the detail as they are setting direction, combining practical financial leadership with longer term planning. You will enjoy being close to the work, working collaboratively with budget holders and colleagues, and helping the organisation make good, informed decisions.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will join a well established, collaborative group that takes shared responsibility for the overall health and direction of the charity. You will model No Limits' values and ensure that financial leadership consistently supports the needs of the children and young people we serve.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading No Limits' financial strategy, planning and performance, ensuring long term sustainability
  • Providing financial leadership and commercial insight as part of the Senior Leadership Team
  • Overseeing budgeting, forecasting, management accounts and statutory reporting
  • Supporting income sustainability through close working with Fundraising and Development
  • Providing clear financial insight and analysis to support organisational decision making
  • Ensuring strong governance, risk management, and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Leading and developing the finance function to deliver high quality, timely financial management

We are committed to making a difference in the lives of the children and young people we work with, and as such, you must show a willingness to demonstrate commitment to the values and behaviours which flow from the No Limits ethos. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is paramount.

We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and those who have had experiences similar to the young people we aim to support. We are committed to creating a diverse environment where people can be their authentic selves, where their experiences and opinions are valued, and we are all open to learning from each other.

As part of our team, you'll receive a comprehensive induction and access to learning and development opportunities relevant to your role, supporting your ongoing growth.

You'll have the essentials of:

  • A recognised accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CGMA, CIPFA or equivalent)
  • Senior financial leadership experience, with responsibility for both strategic and operational finance
  • Up to date knowledge of charity SORP regulations and requirements
  • Experience of financial planning, reporting and governance in a complex organisation
  • Ability to provide clear financial insight and commercial judgement to support decision making
  • A commitment to personal growth, continuous development, and application of learning

You may also have:

  • A successful track record of working with a Trustee Board or a leadership team
  • Experience leading and developing finance teams
  • Lived experience of one or more areas that No Limits supports children and young people

Please let us know if we can support you with any reasonable adjustments at any point prior to, during or after the selection process, such as access arrangements, flexible working, or a suitable place to pray.
