Job Description
The Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts (SFCT) is an umbrella organisation facilitating the work of grant-making trusts and charities established by 3 generations of the Sainsbury family. SFCT does not give grants and is not affiliated with Sainsbury's supermarkets. Each of the 16 Trusts and their associated charitable companies was established by a family member and operates as an independent legal entity with its own focus and Board of Trustees, often led by the founder family member. Fields include: climate, environment, arts, heritage, disability rights, social inclusion, healthcare, science, education, neuroscience, and international development. The Role
The Director of Finance will lead the finance team to support SFCT's complex requirements across finance, investment management, governance, compliance, and risk. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role involves financial and operational oversight, strategic engagement with senior stakeholders, and building effective relationships within the office, with family members, and Trustees. As part of the Head of Central Services group, you will collaborate with the Head of Finance (Gatsby) to improve ways of working, support the Trusts and charities, and ensure readiness for the future.
This is a diverse and complex role covering:
- Leading a high-performing team responding to internal customer needs.
- Driving projects focused on continuous improvement.
- Supporting family members and trustees in managing investments.
The role requires an experienced Finance Director or CFO of an endowment-funded foundation, with strong leadership, stakeholder management, and charity finance knowledge. Experience in investments or related areas is advantageous. The candidate should be proactive, inspiring, and capable of managing a complex finance function across multiple entities.
Location
The Peak, 5 Wilton Road, London SW1V 1AP (2-3 days per week in the office)
