The University of Leicester is a world changing research institution, recently awarded a Gold rating in the 2023 TEF and named the Daily Mail University of the Year 2025. We are seeking a Director of External Relations to deliver strategic leadership of all external relations activities, including marketing, communications, admissions, domestic student recruitment and the Attenborough Arts Centre. The role involves developing and executing an integrated strategy that strengthens the University's brand and student recruitment performance, building on recent successes and the refreshed corporate strategy for growth. Responsibilities include working with Professional Services colleagues and the Colleges to drive sector leading domestic recruitment activity and meet five year student targets in a globally competitive market. Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, the director will lead about 160 staff, manage an overall budget of c£10 million and oversee the university's reputation and brand strategy, ensuring impactful national and international visibility of research, education and global partnerships. The role also strategically manages the Attenborough Arts Centre, aligning its work with the University's community engagement, research impact, health and wellbeing and partnership priorities.
About youApplicants should have substantial leadership experience in higher education, with a proven record of delivering student recruitment growth through data led strategies across marketing, communications and brand development. You must be able to manage large, diverse professional teams and significant budgets, inspire leadership, and demonstrate a deep appreciation of the challenges and opportunities facing the university sector. A relevant degree or professional qualification, strong relational skills, and a commitment to the University's mission, values and an inclusive workplace for all staff, students and stakeholders are essential.
