Senior Direct Tax Manager

Job Summary

Lead, manage, and develop the UK & ROI Tax Compliance Team, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of all direct tax compliance obligations. Support the business with group tax reporting, ETR forecasting, and a wide range of corporate tax advisory projects. Provide strategic tax guidance and partner with stakeholders across the business to drive compliance, support business growth, and maintain strong leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the UK & ROI corporate tax compliance annual cycle including management of the compliance team.
  • Business partner with segments in relation to Direct Tax, supporting the Tax Specialist.
  • Oversee tax process improvement projects and reviews.
  • Approve corporate tax payments and returns (CIR returns, CbCr notifications, Pillar 2) and statutory tax notes for the financial accounts.
  • Maintain the balance sheet and HMRC tax accounts.
  • Manage monthly, half yearly and full year group reporting, including ETR forecasting and monthly journals.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Indirect Tax Manager to ensure efficient delivery of the compliance cycle.
  • Maintain UK local transfer pricing files and liaise with Group and UK Region on transfer pricing obligations.
  • Ensure maintenance, review and testing of the Senior Accounting Officer procedures and documentation for CFO sign off and HMRC submission.
  • Manage SAO certification and advise other SAOs within the UK Region.
  • Maintain the tax risk register and highlight key or emerging tax risks.
  • Develop relationships with the HR team to support Employment Tax queries and projects.
  • Lead corporate tax related projects with the compliance team (e.g., R&D, capital allowances).
  • Lead on tax authority audits, visits and queries on direct tax.
  • Evaluate and implement impacts of changes in corporate tax legislation or developments in the UK & ROI business.
  • Support the Tax Director with UK Tax Strategy and Tax Policy, ensuring compliance with Corporate Criminal Offence Legislation.
  • Keep up to date with tax technical developments for CPD.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject, minimum 2:1.
  • Accountancy qualification (AAT/ACA/ACCA) required; CiOT qualified preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct tax experience.
  • Experience in preparation of tax returns.
  • Excellent and up to date technical knowledge of tax, accounting, and software packages.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with confidence to deal with people at all levels in the UK & ROI business.
  • Industry experience in a tax team within a national or multinational organisation, leading the team or supporting the Head of the team.
  • Transfer pricing and tax policy experience.
  • Knowledge of OneSource Direct tax software.
  • Training at a Big 4 / Top10 public accounting firm preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft, SAP, HFM and general systems.
  • Demonstrated practical process and system knowledge.
  • Irish tax knowledge.
