Applicants wanted to work with 16 year old male who needs support in the community due to their vulnerabilities.
This young person has expressed that they have a great sense of humour and are a very good listener who adores socialising with others. They have expressed that the role would involve letting them access community to partake in favoured activities such as golf, fishing and boxing. This young person is very active so a potential applicant would need to have the energy to keep up with them.
The young person has expressed that they want to support to work towards there own independence in the community so the worker will need to be willing to help a young man grow and develop into adulthood and help them feel confident to develop important life skills.
The worker should have experience working with vulnerable people including those with SEN needs. They need to be consistent, energetic and willing to build up a strong relationship.
Hours of work will be 5.5 hours term and 10 in the holidays.
About the role
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Encouraging the recipient to engage in activities.
- Helping to improve their social skills.
- Settling and supporting the individual.
- Keeping them safe in the community.
- Helping to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
- Attending/transporting the individual to social activities and appointments.
- Encouraging social interaction and inclusion and providing emotional support.
About the candidate
The suitable candidate must:
- Be conscientious and committed to providing support as necessary for the child.
- Be patient, caring and understanding.
- Be able to build a positive relationship with the child to both encourage and support them.
- Be flexible to meet the needs of the family.
- Have knowledge of working with or supporting a child with special needs.
Children and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
Whilst caring experience is always useful, you don't necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker, the right attitude and a person-centred approach is more important.
