Rate: £575 per day (Inside IR35)
Contract: 6 months (likely extension)
About the Role
We're seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer (AWS) with active Security Check (SC) clearance to join a high-profile public sector programme in Newcastle. You'll be part of a multidisciplinary agile delivery team, responsible for designing, automating, and managing secure, scalable AWS infrastructure.
This role is ideal for an engineer passionate about automation, security, and continuous delivery - someone who can bring deep AWS knowledge and DevOps best practices to a complex, fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities

Design, deploy, and manage AWS cloud environments with a focus on automation, scalability, and security.

Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform (or CloudFormation).

Implement and optimise CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, GitHub, or similar tools.

Automate infrastructure builds, testing, and deployments to ensure consistent, compliant delivery.

Manage and operate Kubernetes clusters for containerised workloads.

Apply OWASP security principles across infrastructure and CI/CD workflows.

Monitor and troubleshoot environments using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or CloudWatch.

Collaborate within an Agile delivery team, supporting continuous improvement and DevSecOps culture.
Essential Skills & Experience

Active SC Clearance (mandatory)

Proven hands-on experience with AWS core services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, Route53, VPC, CloudFront, CloudWatch, IAM)

Expertise in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices

Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture and operations

Proficiency in GitLab/GitHub for source control and pipeline management

Solid Scripting ability in Python, Bash, or PowerShell

Strong grounding in Agile and collaborative technical delivery

Knowledge of OWASP and secure software delivery principles
Desirable

AWS certifications (eg AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional, Solutions Architect)

Experience working with UK public sector clients or regulated industries

Familiarity with CloudFormation or Pulumi
