Design Lead

Liverpool

£60,000 - £65,000 + company bonus scheme, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays

The Company

Our client design and manufacture hydraulic and pneumatic components for the process industry. With eight UK locations supporting a wide range of companies across FMCG, Aerospace, Water, Automation, and Metals Manufacturing, the UK business now generates £40 million turnover.

Having made a number of acquisitions, this company have been able to develop their bespoke engineering services over the last 10+ years. Now the business is aiming for 10% growth, and as such have been reviewing their internal capability.

As a result they are looking to recruit a Design Lead with immediate effect.

The Role

The role of Design Lead is a new position for the business, leading a team of 5 and coordinating the activity of the team around design projects. With around 70% hands on design work, this role also provides the ideal step up into management. The Design lead will be responsible for:

  • Controlling the flow of design work into the design team, for projects ranging £5000 to £450,000 in value
  • Qualifying new projects to approve design timescales and allocate to the appropriate member of the team
  • Hands on involvement in 3D Design on SolidWorks/Inventor
  • Challenging standards of working and holding the team accountable to timescales
  • Conducting management responsibilities such as appraisals and HR issues
The Candidate

To be successful in your application for this Design Lead role you will need:

  • Experience in 3D design of hydraulic/fluid systems
  • Either experience or ambition to lead a team
  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to prioritise
  • Experience dealing directly with customers for requirement gathering and costing
