Job Description
Role Overview

Reporting To: Pre-Construction Director / Project Director

Salary £75,000 Plus Package.

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Design Manager to lead the design process across multiple high-quality construction projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing and coordinating design information between internal teams, clients, consultants, and subcontractors, ensuring design deliverables meet project requirements, timelines, and budgets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the design process from pre-construction through to project completion.
  • Lead design meetings and workshops with clients, consultants, and project teams.
  • Coordinate design information between architects, structural engineers, M&E consultants, and specialist subcontractors.
  • Review design drawings, specifications, and documentation for compliance and buildability.
  • Identify and mitigate design risks, resolving conflicts and discrepancies early.
  • Ensure timely release of information to meet project programme milestones.
  • Provide technical support during tendering and procurement stages.
  • Work collaboratively with commercial and construction teams to ensure cost-effective, buildable design solutions.
  • Maintain up-to-date design registers, trackers, and RFI logs.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant statutory regulations, planning permissions, and client requirements.
  • Contribute to value engineering exercises and sustainability targets.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in a similar Design Manager role within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, planning processes, and construction methods.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong technical background - ideally with a degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting drawings and technical documents.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and design packages concurrently.
  • Competent in design and project management software (AutoCAD, Revit, Asta/Primavera/MS Project, etc.).
  • Proactive, solution-driven, and commercially aware.
