Are you a design technology enthusiast ready to inspire the next generation? Do you dream of a career where you can truly make a difference?

We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and inspiring classroom practitioner with a real passion for design technology. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of "students first". Applications are invited from both newly qualified and experienced professionals with expertise in any of the resistant material disciplines (product design, construction, and engineering).

Outwood Academy Carlton is situated in North East Barnsley and is easily accessible from South and West Yorkshire, including Wakefield, Sheffield, Doncaster, Huddersfield and Pontefract. We are only 5 miles from the M1.

Principal's Message

As Principal, I am thrilled at the prospect of introducing you to Outwood Academy Carlton, a proud member of the Outwood Grange Academies Trust, serving the community of Royston, Carlton and surrounding areas. Our core purpose-'to continually and repeatedly grow, well informed, good human beings who are armed with character, skill, emotional intelligence and qualifications to be personally, occupationally and/or professionally successful'-is at the heart of everything we do. This aligns seamlessly with the Trust's vision of 'students first, raising standards and transforming lives,' ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive.

We are seeking prospective colleagues who share our passion for developing well rounded individuals and align with our core purpose. I look forward to welcoming you into our academy.

The Design Technology Department

Our design technology department is a friendly, supportive and high performing team of teachers that includes both experienced and newly qualified staff. The department is well resourced with subject specific equipment, two resistant material classrooms and one food and catering classroom, each equipped with a visualiser. We also have two technicians (resistant materials and food). A strong whole school literacy strategy ensures students gain educational and personal benefits of reading and subject specific tier 3 vocabulary. Our oracy strategy is fully embedded, supporting writing confidence, competence, and speaking and listening skills.

The curriculum is built with the end in mind: KS3 prepares students for KS4 WJEC Hospitality and Catering (vocational) and WJEC Construction and the Built Environment (vocational). Project based clubs foster a passion for design technology and equip students with confidence and skills for success.
