Choose Well - Choose WWL Job overview We are looking for an Dermatology Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our team! We are recruiting to a 37.5 hour post, working Monday - Friday (part time hours, will be considered).
The role of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner is to work across professional boundaries, undertaking a variety of clinical duties, within the context of the clinical team and to work within Dermatology. The Advanced Practitioner is required to work as an autonomous clinical professional. Within the multi-disciplinary team, the Advanced Practitioner will support the provision of high-quality patient centred health care. To identify, assess, diagnose and treat adults with various Dermatological conditions.
While this position is advertised as a Band 8a role, applicants who do not currently hold an MSc in Advanced Practice or equivalent qualification may be considered for a Band 7 to Band 8a development opportunity. In such cases, the role would begin as a temporary Band 7 post, with progression to a permanent Band 8a upon successful completion of the MSc qualification. This development pathway would be offered as a fixed term contract for two years. If you are an internal candidate or employed by another NHS Trust, secondment approval from your current line manager would be required. Main duties of the job Depending on your knowledge, skills, and experience, you will be a key member of the Dermatology Outpatient Team, providing expert clinical advice to support accurate clinical judgement in the diagnosis, ongoing assessment, decision-making, treatment, and management of dermatology patients within the setting. You will lead the clinical development of the dermatology service in partnership with the Consultant team, contributing expertise in clinical governance and supporting the educational growth of colleagues. Advanced Practice in dermatology is delivered by experienced, registered healthcare practitioners. It involves a high degree of autonomy and complex decision-making, underpinned by a master's level qualification or equivalent that encompasses the four pillars: clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research. This includes demonstrating core capabilities and clinical competence specific to dermatology. The post holder will proactively advance the role by applying lessons learned from both the educational programme and practical clinical experience. The aim is to improve patient outcomes by enhancing access to dermatology services.

- Practice at an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability that is within national guidelines, Trust policies and NMC Codes of Conduct.
- To independently receive and make referrals and lead the management of own caseload for dermatology patient treatment, diagnosis and follow up across health care settings.
- To utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based knowledge in the management of patients with complex presentations and to be clinically competent to utilise skills and knowledge in a variety of clinical settings.
- To make independent clinical decisions and initiate investigations, care/treatment, and technological intervention within an agreed framework.
- To direct and use the results of specialist investigations to assist formulation of diagnosis and plan patient management from a range of interventions.
- To oversee and supervise others in delivery of nurse led clinics applicable to the post and specialty.
- Develop and conduct skilled intervention within a skin disease caseload, addressing issues such as skin assessment, treatment and care, co morbidity, education within an agreed framework.
- To maintain up to date, client records in accordance with service policy and to contribute to maintaining minimum dataset.
- To monitor, evaluate and review dermatology nursing practice and to modify approaches to clinical care as necessary.
- To take a leadership role in the development of clinical expertise in dermatology nursing enabling nurses to develop advanced assessment, decision making and prescribing skills.
- To assist in developing nurse led dermatology care in collaboration with medical and multidisciplinary colleagues.
- To be an authoritative expert assessor/advisor on the management, psychological/spiritual/social/practical and ethical needs of dermatology patients and to work in partnership with a range of health professionals to improve skills in these areas.
- To work in close collaboration with dermatology lead consultant colleagues locally, nationally, and internationally.
- To work in collaboration with clinical teams/general management, to ensure there is a defined pathway of care for general dermatology patients, facilitating timely care and treatment of patients.
- To utilise expert re assessment to ensure that the management of planned interventions with other MDT members is maintained via the development of a systematic process of follow up patients across the Trust and wider health care system.
- Engage with appropriate agencies as a nursing leader in the development of innovative nursing practice and initiatives.
- Enhance dermatology as a nursing specialty within the Trust.
- Develop this pioneering role to strengthen nursing leadership.
- Share knowledge and expertise, acting as an expert resource to others within and outside the organisation.
- Understand national and international standards and advise on shaping of services to meet local need.
- Set local standards promoting best practice, utilising leadership and change management skills.
- Act as a role model and advisor for staff within the Trust and the wider arena as appropriate i.e. primary care/other Trusts/national meetings.
- To lead in the implementation of dermatology nursing strategy across the Trust incorporating national and international standards into local practice.
- To inform and influence local management teams to ensure that the service responds to relevant dermatology national initiatives and directives (e.g. NICE, IOG, Peer Review).
- To work in partnership with the team and other areas in the Trust on the strategic and operational planning of the dermatology service and to be responsible for the developments of nursing practice.
- To create, develop and implement guidelines and protocols of care relevant to medical dermatology in partnership with local/national/international agencies.
- To contribute to and influence the national dermatology policy agenda.
- To provide expert input to the Trust's quality strategy by expressing the needs of the patient via a whole system approach rather than a unilateral professional view.
- To develop innovative models of dermatology service delivery, challenging organisational and professional boundaries.
- To develop innovations between the Trust and other agencies to ensure equity and access to the dermatology service.
- To initiate and respond to dermatology user feedback by ongoing evaluation and identification of emerging trends, leading service development and redesign.
- To lead and interpret clinical policy change as it relates to dermatology and provide expert recommendations to managers, the Trust, local and national policy working parties.
- To be responsible for the maintenance of accurate written records.
- To identify appropriate outcome measures and service impact measures, which evaluate accurately patient response and service development needs.
- To maintain accurate statistical information in dermatology using databases as necessary to inform management team and drive audit programme.
- To flexibly manage responsibility for own complex clinical caseload, Trust and external teaching/lecturing. To be research active and contribute to service development and quality assurance.
- In collaboration with management and external agencies, to identify clinically focused research priorities.
