Job Description
Edgcumbe Ward is a specialist dementia 11 bedded assessment unit based at Mount Gould Hospital. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse or Adult Nurse to join our team as Deputy Ward Manager.
The role will be a mixture of clinical and management days offering leadership and day to day management of the unit. The post holder will work a range of shifts including, long days, earlies, lates and nights over a 7-day period.
You will have a interest for the care of people with Dementia, and will have excellent clinical and assessment skills in both mental health and physical health. You will have some managerial responsibilities such as line management, absence management, checking safer staffing and seeking additional staff where needed. You will also deputise for the ward manager in their absence.

Main duties of the job The DWMis responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development,implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. He / she will bedesignated to take charge regularly of the ward. In the absence of the Ward Manager he / shewill be responsible for the management of the ward.
The DWMis required to supervise junior staff and be able to teach qualified andunqualified staff, including basic and / or post basic students.
The DWMwill at all times work within the spirit of the NMC code of ProfessionalConduct for trained nurses and local policies.
The DWMwill be expected to be involved in the management and leadership of the ward.
The DWM Will be required to act in a consultative role to a variety of agencies.
The role requires the DWM to be flexible in shift working which will be across the 7 day period including nights where required. It is expected that the shifts will be primarily earlies and lates.
Therole requires the DWM to participate in physical interventions on a regular basis.
This role may not be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.

Job responsibilities Clinical
Tobe a member of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to all its forums,leading meetings and case conferences/ risk management for patients.
Tobe an advocate and experienced clinician in the care of people with agerelated illnesses and dementia
Tobe responsible for a designated team to ensure standards are maintained.
Topromote and report adult safeguarding concerns/plans
Tofunction as a member of a multi disciplinary team taking appropriateresponsibility for the implementation of decisions made by the team.
Participatein the unit wide response team which responds to any untoward incident andundertake associated training.
Tohave physical intervention qualification to respond to physicalintervention incidents
Tolink closely with other wards and services in the delivery of care under CareProgramme Approach.
Toimplement and evaluate core group therapeutic programme on the ward geared tomeet individual needs of patients.
Topromote collaborative approach to patient care within the team providingsupport to junior staff.
Toassist the Ward Manager in the introduction of an effective care deliverysystem devised to meet the needs of patients which is evidenced basedwherever possible.
Toassist the Ward Manager in the identification and maintenance of writtenstandards of care and the use of electronic records
Tosupport the ward manager with responding to any concerns or complaints
Toact as clinical role model, demonstrating high standards of nursing practice.
Toassist the Ward Manager in the introduction of patients involvement in theday to day issues on the ward.
Toensure close links with other wards / departments to identify / resolveclinical issues.
Toparticipate in clinical supervision as supervisor.
Tomaintain good working relationships with other agencies.
Tobe responsible for implementing drugadministration procedures according to laid down policies.
Tomaintain confidentiality in respect of the patient / client at all times.
Communicateclearly with patients, their families and all other mental healthprofessional groups. To utilize the Triangle of Care.
Activelyparticipate in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives, eg.clinical audit, clinical team meeting, or clinical policy development.
Playan active role in CPA multi disciplinary reviews and ward rounds, reportingon the nursing assessment of the patients progress and participating infurther MD care planning.
Ensurethat patients are encouraged and supported in their Care Plan
Provide,receive and analysis complex information from a range of sources.
Analysisand make decisions in relation to patient risk.
Managerial
Ensuring effective use of unitresources.
To ensure that staff aresupport under the sickness and absence policy. Including making referrals,regular supervision and meetings with the HR department where appropriate
To support the ward manager inhaving regular staff meetings and ensuring that the patients communitymeeting are held. This includes ensuring actions are followed up withexternal stakeholders if appropriate
To uphold the poor performancepolicy to provide leadership to staff
To be aware of the Health andSafety at Work Act and the implications of the work environment.
To ensure effectiveleadership and supervision to the ward nurse team. To provide leadership to adesignated patient group.
