Deputy HeadteacherNew Specialist SEN School Braintree, Essex
An exciting opportunity to help shape a new school from the very beginning - with the potential to progress to Headteacher as the school grows.
We are delighted to be recruiting a Deputy Headteacher to join the founding leadership team of an exciting new Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Braintree, Essex.
This is much more than a traditional Deputy Headteacher role. As a new school, you will have the rare opportunity to help create the culture, curriculum, systems and community that will define the school for years to come.
We are looking for an exceptional educational leader who shares our belief that every child can achieve, flourish and develop a strong sense of belonging when the right environment, relationships and opportunities are in place.
The Opportunity
Working closely with the founding Headteacher, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and developing the school.
You will help shape:
- The school's vision, values, principles and ethos.
- A positive, inclusive and aspirational culture for pupils and staff.
- High-quality teaching, learning and therapeutic approaches appropriate to our pupils.
- Strong systems for safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and pastoral support.
- Effective partnerships with families, professionals and the wider community.
- Staff development, wellbeing and a culture of continuous improvement.
- The structures and practices required as the school expands.
As the school develops, there will be significant opportunities for professional growth and leadership development. For the right person, this role could provide a genuine pathway towards Headship as the school grows.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a Deputy Headteacher who is an inspirational, values-led and highly motivated educational leader.
You will need to bring strong leadership experience, but just as importantly, you will need to bring the right character, values and mindset for a new SEN school.
We want someone who:
- Puts children and young people at the heart of every decision.
- Has high expectations while understanding and responding to individual needs.
- Believes passionately in the potential of children with SEN.
- Builds trusting, respectful relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
- Leads with warmth, integrity, courage and authenticity.
- Is reflective, emotionally intelligent and solution-focused.
- Can turn vision into action and create effective systems from the ground up.
- Is comfortable with change, ambiguity and the challenges that come with establishing something new.
- Has the ambition and capacity to grow as a leader alongside the school.
Values Come First
For us, values, principles and ethos are not simply words on a page. They will be central to the way we build our school and will be fundamental to our recruitment process.
We are looking for someone whose personal values align with our vision and who will actively contribute to creating a school where pupils are known, understood, valued and encouraged to achieve their very best.
You will have the opportunity to influence what the school stands for and, importantly, how those values are lived every day.
A Chance to Build Something Special
Joining a new school requires energy, creativity and a willingness to roll up your sleeves. There will be challenges, but there will also be an extraordinary sense of purpose and achievement in seeing your ideas, leadership and hard work become part of the school's foundations.
This is an opportunity for someone who doesn't simply want to lead within an established school, but wants to help create one.
If you are an ambitious SEN leader, an experienced senior leader ready for your next challenge, or an exceptional educational leader looking for the opportunity to make your mark, we would love to hear from you.
This could be the beginning of something very special - for you, for our pupils and for the school community we are building.
Could you be part of our founding leadership team?
We are looking for a Deputy Headteacher who is ready to shape, inspire and lead - and who has the ambition to grow with us.
