Deputy General Manager - Women's and Neonates

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a high performing operational manager to join the Women's and Neonates senior leadership team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital as Deputy General Manager (DGM).

The successful candidate will have strong operational management skills, and will be able to establish credibility with internal and external stakeholders and enjoy being part of an ambitious, high performing team.

You will have experience of managing access targets, budgets, a good understanding of the NHS performance framework and well-developed numerical and analytical ability. As an excellent communicator you will be able to motivate and engage others to ensure that the services we provide reflect the Trust's values.

Main duties of the job

The DGM will provide effective operational management support to the Women's and Neonate Services, assisting Clinical Directors and Service Leads as required and ensuring that the service is responsive, innovative and provided to the highest possible clinical and performance standards.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Deputy General Manager will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring service delivery against strategic and business plans throughout the year to ensure successful delivery.
  • Working with the General Manager to produce accurate, high quality business cases for service developments.
  • Working with the Service Manager, Lead Nurse, Clinical Leads and wider teams to achieve sustained improvements.
  • Deputising for and acting on behalf of the General Manager.
  • Ensuring that the directorate services provided are of a consistently high quality and deliver an excellent patient experience.

Job responsibilities

Ensure that high clinical services are delivered in line with Trust's Quality Strategy and available financial resources.

Actively involved and lead directorate staff in the delivery of clinical governance, in accordance with Trust systems, processes and priorities.

Work closely with internal teams to devise systems proactively to manage service demands and ensure that these are fully implemented.

Person Specification
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Post graduate qualification or evidence of post graduate education
  • Significant service or general management experience in the health sector with responsibility for operational matters including staff management, budgetary responsibility, performance targets, waiting list management, discharge arrangements
  • Proven experience of service development
  • Proven experience of change management ability
  • Experience of leading projects
  • Experience of waiting times/access targets - health sector national access targets
  • Ability to develop and maintain communication with people on complex matters, issues and ideas and/or in complex situations
  • Demonstrates effective leadership
  • Ability to manage distressing situations with the right de-escalation approach, including occasional exposure to verbal abuse
  • Development of internal controls to deliver a culture of integrated governance
  • Financial, performance and information management and analysis skills
  • Presentation and communication skills
  • Computer skills, including Word, Excel and Power-Point

  • Ability to plan, coordinate and monitor the delivery of services and/or projects
