Since 1824, more than 146,000 people have owed their lives to the courage and professionalism of our volunteers and staff. The delivery of all this lifesaving work across the UK, Ireland, and further afield is only made possible by the support, dedication and commitment of our volunteers and staff - c. 27,000 people in total, all pulling together as one crew.
As we embark on our third century of lifesaving, we must be receptive to progressive ideas and how we can better the quality of our service, the safety of our people, and the way we operate. The way people are using the coast and the water is changing; we need to be operating in the most efficient and cost-effective way; we need to explore innovative ways to raise the required funds; and we need to work with partners nationally and internationally to maximise our reach and impact. We know that we need to adapt and rise to the challenges ahead of us, with courage and integrity.
We are looking for an accomplished maritime practitioner with senior commercial business management experience, preferably at head of department level.
It is essential that you are a qualified Class 1 Deck Officer / RN Command Qualified (2) / STCW 95 / or equivalent qualifications/ experience
Responsibilities- As Deputy Director in Lifesaving Operations, you will act as second in command to the Chief Operating Officer and ensure that our lifesaving teams delivered through the regions are supported by an integrated lifesaving support team. Providing strategic oversight, this role will review all data and feedback from the frontline service, monitoring trends and support requirements.
- You will lead the Integrated Services team consisting of Lifeboat, Lifeguard, Performance and future innovation teams in developing the RNLI's strategic Goal 2: Deliver a sustainable future fit lifesaving service. These teams will work together based on a demand set from regional and global drowning prevention delivery teams to ensure that our frontline lifesaving services have effective and dynamic support in carrying out their duties whilst overseeing innovative future opportunities in both equipment and ways of working.
- You will also lead the department's duty holding system to provide assurance to the Chief Operating Officer, ensuring that the department operates safely and that mitigations against any risks are effective and prioritised. You will take responsibility for maintaining full compliance with all applicable regulations, while continually seeking to adopt best practice and harness new technologies that enhance our lifesaving capability.
- You will work collaboratively with colleagues within Lifesaving Operations and across the RNLI, building relationships, providing support and constructive challenge, to ensure the organisation operates in the most effective way to save more lives at sea.
