Data Scientist

Location: Birmingham/Sheffield (Hybrid 1-2 days)
Contract: Until 28/11/2025
Day Rate: £488 (Inside IR35)
Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team on a contract basis. The successful candidate will play a key role in extracting insights from large and complex datasets, developing predictive models, and applying advanced analytics to solve real business challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-process structured and unstructured data to ensure quality and usability.
  • Enhance data collection methods to capture all relevant information for analytical systems.
  • Cleanse, process, and validate datasets to maintain integrity and accuracy.
  • Analyse large volumes of information to identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights.
  • Design and implement predictive models and machine learning algorithms.
  • Present results and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Propose strategies and solutions to complex business problems.
  • Perform data mining and extract usable data from various sources.
  • Apply feature selection and optimise classifiers using machine learning tools.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Programming: Proficiency in Python and SQL is essential. Experience with Hive/Hadoop, Pig, Scala, or Java would be advantageous.
  • Statistics: Strong applied statistical skills, including hypothesis testing, regression, distributions, and maximum likelihood estimators.
  • Machine Learning: Working knowledge of algorithms such as k-NN, Naïve Bayes, SVM, and Decision Forests.
  • Mathematics: Solid foundation in Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra for algorithm optimisation.
  • Data Wrangling: Skilled in handling imperfect datasets to prepare them for analysis.
  • Visualisation: Experience with tools such as Splunk and Power BI to communicate insights effectively.
