Data Analyst (Full-time, FTC 3 Months)

The Alternative HAN Company (Alt HAN Co) is a not-for-profit company jointly owned by a co-operative of UK retail Energy Suppliers. It operates through a Forum of supplier representatives, and a Board. Costs are recovered from energy consumers, via charges levied on all licensed energy suppliers.

We were established in 2016 for the sole purpose of finding an industry-wide solution for smart metering in hard-to-reach houses and apartment blocks. Specifically, where the broadcast signal from a smart meter communications hub is not strong enough to reach the gas meter or smart devices in the home. This problem affects around 5% of premises - and if not addressed could leave behind more than a million customers in the transition to a smarter, low-carbon energy sector.

We have established a Crowded Meter Room Programme with an objective of resolving meter rooms to enable Smart Meters to be installed which will ensure that end customers can benefit from all things that being Smart enabled can deliver. We have a team managing this activity and work in partnership with two Meter Equipment Managers to fulfil this work.

Alt HAN Co is heavily focused on delivery with an emphasis on making data driven decisions and ensuring that we have accurate reporting across our portfolio, specifically focused for this role on our operational reporting. There will be an emphasis on supporting both analysis and reporting requirements for the crowded meter room team and supporting our existing analyst with allocated tasks.

The Role:

Working in the Customer Operations department, the Data Analyst will be part of the in support of the delivery of analysis and reporting associated with our core operational delivery including devices delivery and installation reporting and analysis and reporting of our Crowded Meter Room Performance. Ensuring these services are delivered to the required quality and performance levels so that Alt HAN meets its commitments to support the Smart Meter rollout activities with the Energy industry.

Reporting against the Crowded Meter Room Service associated Volumes, SLA's and KPI's and highlighting any key trends.

Supporting the operational team and providing and requesting data and analytics where required.

Supporting in feature trends identified through survey reports to identify improvements to our data selection model working closing with our lead analyst.

Alt HAN is looking for an experienced analyst who can bring their in-depth knowledge on data management, manipulation & reporting in addition to performing statistical analysis and providing Business intelligence insights to our Business and Energy Suppliers

A proficient specialist who applies mathematical, problem-solving, and coding skills to manage data, extracting valuable insights, designing tailor made solutions from data, aiding our business in achieving unique objectives and goals.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Head of Customer Operation, key accountabilities include:

• Undertaking data collection, preprocessing and analysis
• Building models to address business problems
• Support in the delivery of the charging, data and reporting services for the Customer Operations department.
• Work collaboratively with the Customer Service Manager and peers within the Customer Management Team on the delivery of the team and departmental strategies.
• Work collaboratively with the other departments and teams in Alt HAN to ensure service quality and performance is maintained and as needed, to deliver the overall At HAN business strategy.
• Identify valuable data sources and automate cleansing processes
• Undertake preprocessing of structured and unstructured data
• Analyse large amounts (several million records) of information to discover trends and patterns
• Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms
• Combine models through ensemble modelling
• Propose solutions and strategies to business challenges
• Collaborate with engineering and product development teams
• Surveying Activity - work collaboratively to ensure that the design and implementation of reporting of the output of the survey activity can be ingested suitably into Power BI to be reviewed by relevant Alt HAN stakeholders. Quality check outputs of surveying activity and provide recommendations as to how results could be influenced by pivoting the approach.
• Rollout plan & Forecasts - on a quarterly basis deliver the process to utilises forecast information from the Energy Suppliers to produce the Alt HAN rollout plan including updating the relevant reports accessible by relevant members of the team.
• Query Management & Data - manage/resolve ad-hoc queries related to data and reporting. Maintain relevant data models, schemas and mappings.
• Reporting - Update daily reports and where appropriate develop and deliver service, team and departmental reporting.
• Continuous Improvement - Identify improvement opportunities and work collaboratively with peers, other business areas and external service providers to implement changes required to improve performance, ways or working with a customer centric approach.
• Data & Data Science - Support Data Projects, contribute towards the improvement of Data Management processes and systems.
• Build robust data models, reports and visualisations that support Customer ops to monitor its activities around F&O, predictions and identify trends.
• Collect, analyse industry data and disseminate information, insights and analysis for operations performance and key stakeholders to make informed choice (ES)
• Provide data driven recommendations to improve the services we deliver to our customers; and see ideas through to impact
• Provide key stakeholders across the business with self-service dashboards for real time understanding of the metrics created/ measured

Professional Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

Intellectually strong the successful applicant will be expected to utilise their prior experience to hit the ground running to support our business.

You will have the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

• Advanced skills in MS Office applications and relates programming languages;
• Advances skills in R Python and "big data set" management tools (e.g. SQL, RDMS) and Data Visualisation
• Familiarity with Scala, Java or C++ would be advantageous.
• Understanding of machine learning and operational research
• Proven experience within the areas of Data Science/Data Analytics
• Experience of data mining
• Proven ability to demonstrate skills in the design, development and delivery of operational services
• Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau/ Power BI)
• Analytical mind and business acumen
• Problem-solving aptitude
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field; graduate degree in Data Science or other quantitative field is preferred
