At Eni, we are seeking a Crude Oil Operations Specialist to join Eni Trade & Biofuels (ETB) in London, UK. You will be part of the operations team, working within a dedicated desk and collaborating closely with traders, analysts and other operators in the London-based crude team.

This role requires a certain level of flexibility to share expertise with other members of the operations team and to cover additional operational assignments as needed.

You will work closely with various functions, including Oil and Freight Traders, Shipping Operations, Scheduling, Credit, Middle Office, Back Office, Insurance, Legal, Finance and Contracts.

This position offers unparalleled exposure to the full commodity trading lifecycle - both physical and financial - through close collaboration with our Front Office, Risk functions, Finance, Back Office and multiple business units.

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day trading operations activities for the relevant commodities, aiming to ensure operational performance and efficiency.
  • Handle voyage orders, pro forma invoices, documentary instructions, vessel nominations, letters of credit, provisional and final cargo insurance, narrowing/nomination of dates and quantities, vessel clearance and related tasks.
  • Support the demurrage and cost management team with ancillary charges such as demurrage, freight differentials, deviation costs, and dead freight, and assist in their resolution.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships and daily communication with the operations teams of relevant counterparties.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all communications with terminals regarding loading programme nominations and related matters.
  • Manage relationships and communications with terminals and Eni departments to ensure the efficiency of operational activities.
  • Oversee and optimise the operational and contractual aspects of BFOETM paper/chain activities.
  • Manage and optimise the physical operations of the North Sea trading portfolio, including equity, third-party and traded cargoes.
  • Identify the root cause of any operational issues encountered and ensure resolution through coordination with all affected stakeholders, mitigating costs and consequences for the Group.


Skills and experience required:

  • Strong academic credentials with a numeracy-oriented specialisation.
  • Understanding of the oil trading operations role would be advantageous.
  • Self-disciplined and resilient under pressure.
  • Knowledge of the subject and experience in a trading environment would be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with cargo documentation, bills of lading, inspection procedures, letters of credit, voyage orders and customs would be beneficial.
  • Understanding of Trading & Shipping Operations activities, including cargoes, time charters, voyage charters, vessels and quality & quantity controls, would be beneficial.
  • Strong teamwork skills, a positive attitude and an innovative, proactive and efficient approach to work.
  • Self-driven, dedicated and results-oriented approach to work.
  • Good attention to detail; organised, structured and logical.
  • Awareness of procedures and compliance policies.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build and nurture effective relationships both internally and externally.
  • Experience of working in a global and international organisation would be beneficial.
  • Full command of the English language (written and spoken); knowledge of Italian would be beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work at pace in a dynamic trading environment, handling time-sensitive, business-critical activities requiring 24/7 responsiveness. Strong planning and organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work with limited supervision.
